Canon Audiobook Review: The High Republic – The Battle of Jedha

– Spoiler Review –

Kicking off 2023’s The High Republic Phase II content is none other than George Mann’s audio drama The Battle of Jedha, performed by a full cast. Set after the events of Convergence, the audio drama finds Jedha the center of a major peace treaty, though the forces conspiring against peace and the Jedi in the galaxy turn events on their head. With some excellent performances across the cast, great messages for our world and the characters in the story, and a solid pace, The Battle of Jedha makes for a memorable experience in Phase II, though it runs into some issues I have with audio productions while also ends up feeling more like a stepping stone rather than a destination event. Canon Comic Review: The High Republic – The Blade #1

– Spoiler Review –

Porter Engle’s legendary lightsaber status has been a part of his backstory since we’ve met him, and while he’s had a chance to show it off, what was he like in his younger, non-chef focused years? And how did he earn the name “Blade of Bardotta?” As one of the most anticipated Phase II projects, Charles Soule’s miniseries The High Republic – The Blade #1 doesn’t disappoint, as it kicks off the exploration of Porter’s name defining past by introducing us to a surprise variable: Barash, his sister. The easy chemistry between the two leads, great art, and promise of tragedy and action will leave readers anxious for more. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: The High Republic – The Blade #1”

Canon Comic Review: The High Republic Adventures #1 – Phase II

– Spoiler Review –

Of the many highlights from the first Phase of The High Republic initiative was the story Daniel José Older cooked up in his IDW comics series, The High Republic Adventures, which centered around Padawans and a smaller scaled story of their connections and struggles throughout the Drengir and Nihil conflicts. Older returns with The High Republic Adventures – Phase II via Dark Horse and the same pedigree is already present, this time introducing us to a younger incarnation of Phase I character Sav Malagán and her own struggles with being part of the Jedi Order. Energetic, engaging, and grounded in Sav’s character development, The High Republic Adventures #1 – Phase II seems to promise, despite the shorter run, something as memorable as the first.
