The Rise of Kylo Ren #1 begins what is looking to be one of the most epic stories yet to be told by Star Wars comics, living up to the promise in one single issue alone of showing us the story of Ben’s fall to Ren, where answers bring new and intriguing questions with them. Star Wars Comics January 2020 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics January 2020 Solicitations

January is a time for new beginnings and all those important resolutions we love to make, like watching more Star Wars…but on a treadmill. It’s also a time of uncertainty for what’s ahead, as we don’t quite know what’s next for the Star Wars Saga after The Rise of Skywalker brings the Skywalker part of it to an end (and if the epic trailer from Monday is anything to go by, it’s going be a brave new galaxy), but we at least get our first glimpses of Marvel’s relaunching efforts in 2020 and beyond with today’s solicitations. Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Galaxy’s Edge

Galaxy's Edge Miniseries Review

– Spoiler Review –

Opening up the first ever Star Wars theme park is quite the big deal, so of course to both build up the location within the universe and hype up the park, a publishing program launched, including the 5-issue miniseries, Galaxy’s Edge. Written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Will Sliney and Dono Sánchez-Almara, the comic explores the background to several objects within Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, tying them into a ‘present’ set heist story for the mythical Sword of Khashyun. While full of some intriguing and fun tales with familiar characters, Galaxy’s Edge doesn’t spend enough time at the park, meaning the heist or new characters don’t steal the show. Star Wars Comics December 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics December 2019 Solicitations

December is full of endings: the end of the 2019 calendar year, the end of the Skywalker Saga with The Rise of Skywalker, and the end of Phase 1 of Marvel’s Star Wars comics??!!!!??? That’s right, with the announcement of Empire Ascendant one-shot earlier today, the beginning of the end for Marvel’s first Phase, as it were, has arrived. And that includes Doctor Aphra, much to this fan’s giant dismay, though it’s not all endings, as December sees the start of The Rise of Kylo Ren miniseries! Galaxy's Edge #4

Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Age of Rebellion

Age of Rebellion Miniseries Review 2

Age of Rebellion is the middle “Age” of the Age of Star Wars maxiseries, but having to follow in the footsteps of Houser and team’s Republic seemed like a difficult job. Greg Pak, a few other writers, and the various artists along for the ride delved into the latest “Age” with aplomb, and while most of it was simply good, it’s highs were quite the zenith. Canon Comic Review: Galaxy’s Edge #3

Galaxy's Edge #3

– Spoiler Review –

If you haven’t yet or won’t be anytime soon enjoying the Galaxy’s Edge theme park, then I can honestly say issue #3 of the park’s tie-in comic miniseries might be its best yet, as it connects to the park in a more meaningful way than the previous issues, while some familiar faces (including a BIG favorite of mine) add even more fun. Star Wars Comics August 2019 Solicitations

By the end of August 2019, both the 14-acre Star Wars theme park expansions will be open, signaling a new era for ways to interact with the Saga, making it feel a little less far, far away. And as fans gear up for The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian, the comics continue the beat of their own drums, though with the Galaxy’s Edge and TIE Fighter minis coming to an end, what might take their place? We don’t have an answer yet, so spend August enjoying Doctor Aphra antics, the early beginnings of Greg Pak’sStar Wars, and Kylo Ren marooned on a planet with General Hugs Hux in the Age of Resistance, among others!
