It feels like we’ve had so little in the way of Star Wars video games, it’s almost shocking and overwhelming we’ll have two giant releases out within just over a month of each other later this year! At Summer Games Fest, the replacement for the old E3 gaming event, we got brand new looks at Galactic Racer, which we just got release date/pre-order information and a trailer for not too long ago, and finally another, deeper look at Zero Company, including its newly announced August 27 release date! You can see Zero Company‘s new trailer above, but head below for new details about it and Galactic Racer, plus the racing game’s new trailer, as well as a hint one long ago announced game is still on the way. Get your wallets ready!
Galactic Racer
The new trailer came with story details for the game’s campaign:
“Kestar Bool is the star of the Outer Rim’s Galactic League, using his position as League Champion to intimidate other pilots and extend his already powerful reach even further. Shade, an up-and-coming racer with a personal grudge against the Bool family, enters the League with an eye firmly on unseating the corrupt champion. Not only does Shade have a skilled Ardennian mechanic named Hibi to rely on, but also the support of legendary racer Sebulba — assuming Shade can earn the Dug’s hard-won respect.”
To complete Shade’s revenge against the Bool family, players will have to master the runs-based story campaign, which essentially makes it sound like a rogue-lite experience, where failure means you have to start over (it sounds like at least per event, not the whole game), but you can carry over any perks/unlocks:
“The runs-based story campaign sees players carving their own path through the League, choosing between different events as they progress with unique unlocks and new challenges at every turn. There’s no turning back once an event is chosen. If a pilot crashes too many times, they wreck out of the tour and will need to regroup, rebuild, and begin again. Only certain perks and unlocks earned in previous attempts are carried over to the next run. Racers will start each tour fresh with new decisions and choices to make for another chance to take down league champion Kestar Bool. “
I like this idea, honestly, as it adds an extra dimension to the story mode and adds a lot of replayability. Try it again with better perks. Failure actually feels like it’ll hold you back, if just for a moment. And it makes taking risks all the more calculated. Beyond new details on the story, we also learned that Hibi, the Ardennian mechanic, and each planet’s ‘paddock’ will function as like a gaming hub area where you can walk around between races, fit or buy upgrades, and chat with the other racers. Also, fans noticed what looks to be Star Wars Resistance‘s Griff Halloran, who’d be a little younger and somewhat freshly defected from the Empire by the time of the game….is it just a fun idea to bring in a familiar face ripe to be expanded on, or are they hinting DLC/a potential Galactic Racer 2 would include starship races next?! I highly doubt it, but hey, maybe if this first game sells well enough, you never know!
This ain’t no Episode 1: Racer, which I’m glad about, but damn does the podracing look fantastic!! Hopefully we’ll get to challenge you to some races when this game drops October 6!
Zero Company
A brief overview of the game and a snippet of story info:
“In Star Wars Zero Company, you play as former Republic officer Hawks and gather unconventional allies, including a disillusioned clone trooper voiced by the legendary Dee Bradley Baker, a Mandalorian of the ancient Clan Verminoth, a Tognath Jedi Padawan, and more to form your squad. Working alongside ranks of hard-nosed recruits from across the galaxy, known as Operators, you’ll hunt the leader of a Separatist-aligned cult named Kundri Fathom, who poses a threat to the entire galaxy.”
It’s wild to think we’ve heard more about Racer than Zero Company, yet the latter comes out before the former! Last time we got any official news about Zero Company was back in April 2025, which makes this even more wild, but there was an excellent deep-dive preview by PC Gamer in March 2026 that helped bridge the gap a bit. In their preview, they go over the surprising depth of the game’s systems and how your choices will impact the game on so many different levels, to the point the fear-of-missing-out will be a constant battle. Playable character Hawks, who is fully customizable so he doesn’t have to be the ol’ gruff guy in the trailer, is the only one exempt from the game’s perma-death, which means every other character you meet, play alongside, and pick up along the way can perish, for good, depending on your choices and how you play. Missions similarly can be missed, as each ‘cycle’ only has so many available and they are gone once a new cycle begins. Interactions within the world lead to various consequences, like creating an enemy who will come to haunt you later or a friend who will assist later in the game. Your companions might hate each other or be best friends, and players can change that depending on how they play things. It’s fascinating stuff and, like I said, it’s giving all the FOMOs, but I’m getting more and more eager to check it out and live with my consequences (or save scum here and there, when I get too attached).
The new trailer revealed Anakin Skywalker’s appearance, which given we see a red lightsaber at one point as well, it doesn’t seem impossible to think those two things could be related. But also, I kind of hope they aren’t, as it’d be neat to help Anakin with one thing and bear the wrath of whomever is wielding the blade because of it. We also got to see the strange new cult in the opening of the trailer, alongside its leader later, whom Zero Company is hired by the Republic to take care of. PC Gamer got to see this cult in action. Essentially, when one dies, their spirit enters one of their crew and buffs them, giving them more power, which stacks and leads to the creation of a boss character if players aren’t careful. Aw hell no!
Seriously, everything in this game sounds like it’s made to make us suffer, but in the best, gaming-way possible.
UPDATE 6/6: It sounds like we’re going to have a deep-dive video incoming on 6/9 at 11:30am CST, so prepare for more details and a better look at gameplay soon!
UPDATE 6/9: The deep-dive wasn’t a video, but it was a very lengthy blog post that basically unpacks everything you’d probably get in an old school game manual, from the main characters, each step of combat, what you can upgrade, how the timing and missions works, and so so so much damn more. Really worth a read if you’re interested to get ahead of the game before playing it.
I’ll do my best to get over the FOMO worries and pick up Zero Company when it drops August 27!
Untitled Skydance Game
It was 2022 we learned Amy Hennig was back trying to make another Star Wars game, this time with Paramount’s Skydance. She’s most well-known for the Uncharted series for Sony’s PlayStation and someone who I was lucky to meet at two Star Wars Celebrations over a decade ago now, as she was behind a game tentatively titled Project Ragtag that was eventually cancelled. The latest update comes from gaming journalist Stephen Totilo and his Gamefile platform, where he interviewed the head of creative/production at Paramount Games Group, Shawn Kittelsen. Kittelsen revealed Hennig’s team is still slated to make their Star Wars game, but they’re focusing on finishing their current project first, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, itself announced in 2021.
So will we see it? I seriously hope so, as Project Ragtag sounded very promising, and I’d love to see what Hennig and her team could eventually bring to the Star Wars table.
