Revenge may not be the way of the Jedi – but it is the way of the scoundrel! After Han Solo and Chewbacca take a bum deal, the pair want revenge and the money owed. Join us on the Legendary Adventure as we encounter Han Solo’s Revenge!
“Han stared at his own lean reflection. In another man, he’d have said those eyes were too used to concealing everything but cynicism.”
A lot of the Legendary Adventures have had a similar flavor lately: one intrepid hero faces a localized evil, usually causing minor damage to an oppressive regime. This doesn’t stop the regime, but it does hinder it just a bit. The Dark Times, named due to the reign of the Sith, are actually a proving ground for the regular people of the galaxy to stand against the forces of evil and stand on the side of light.
So we turn to a familiar face again, remembering that there is one scoundrel who, despite overwhelming odds (most of which are his fault), will stand up against evil whenever he sees it. Han Solo, smuggler extraordinaire, is in the red. He and Chewbacca, after spending lots of time and resources rescuing an old friend from the dangerous prison known as Stars’ End, are in need of money. Lots and lots of money. And, don’t forget, it isn’t easy living with a death mark on his head – dangerous bounty hunter Boba Fett is still on Han’s trail at the behest of t’landa Til leader Teroenza.
He and co-pilot Chewbacca take a lucrative job on Lur, located in the Corporate Sector. As you might expect, this job goes south really quickly. The job description merely asks that the pilots be responsible to bring some material across the galaxy, which seems easy enough. When Han and Chewbacca discover that the material is a group of slaves, they are held at gunpoint, forced by the end of a blaster to consider moving cargo they have ethical objections to. Han, used to escaping the clutches of those who want to hold him against his will, turns the tables on the slavers and brings their ring down around them. The slaves turn on their former masters, killing them (fairly brutally, I might say!)
This ticks Han Solo and Chewbacca off. Both have familiarity with slavery, both used as a slave (to differing degrees) by harsh masters. Not one to take such an offense sitting down, the pair want revenge on those who offered them this job. And, hey, if they can make a few credits by shaking them down, too, more power to them!
Han finds some clues on the bodies of the slavers that the slavery ring might be more highly placed than he initially thought it was. They also discover that the slavers were on their way to a rendezvous with other slavers on Bonadan, a planet in Authority space. This leads them to speculate that the Authority is not turning a blind eye to slavery, but perhaps aiding, abetting, and benefiting from the practice. They hope to show up at the rendezvous instead of the now-deceased slavers in order to get their money. Instead, they run into auditor-general Fiolla, who is investigating the slave rings herself. Her investigation also led to this rendezvous, where she and Han and Chewbacca decide to work together to untangle the ring. Han and Fiolla follow more clues to a planet called Ammuud, which seems to be the headquarters of the Authority slavery ring.
On Ammuud, Han, Chewbacca, and Fiolla are close to discovering the heart of the conspiracy, asking: who was the ringleader for the Authority who organized their use of slaves? Their investigation is constantly besieged by subterfuge, direct attacks, and mechanical problems (they are flying the Falcon, after all). In need of repairs, they find themselves at the mercy of Mor Ewwn Glayyd. Something tells Han that Glayyd knows more about the slave ring than he lets on, but is having trouble getting more information out of him. (In reality, Glayyd has taken a vow of silence in order to protect his father, the main instigator in the slave ring in recent history.)
Fortunately for Han (you’ll see why) and unfortunately for Glayyd, famed gunman Gallandro was also holding his own investigation into the slavers. He made a plan to assassinate the current Head of House Glayyd (Mor Ewwn Glayyd) in order to cripple the rings. Gallandro is close to shooting Glayyd in a classic Western shoot-out, but Han offers to take Glayyd’s place. Remember: Han is assuredly NOT in favor of slavery; he is, though, concerned with ending someone’s life unfairly. The jury is out whether it would’ve been unfair to end his life due to his complicity in the slavery, so please feel free to discuss among yourselves. Han wins a shoot-out with Gallandro, saving Glayyd’s life. Glayyd is so overwhelmed with thankfulness he turns over many documents to Han and Fiolla, giving them the information they need to cripple the slavery ring and the Authority’s power and wealth base.
Sure, this doesn’t bring down the Authority, but it sure puts a massive dent into their business dealings and their wealth. And, really, isn’t that all we can look for sometimes? But Authority slavers might be the least of Han’s worries as he soon comes to face a ferocious warrior despot….in the next Legendary Adventure!
