About the Manor

Mynock Manor: Hyperspace’s Last Stop was started June, 1 2014 by Ryan Malin, an ex-writer for now-offline Star Wars fan-site Knights’ Archive. The geek focus is strong with this site, and while we do tend to cater heavily to Star Wars related news, all types of geekery is open for expression at the manor.

I could give you the whole song and dance and explicitly steamy and NSFAE (not safe for anyone’s ears) details about my love affair with Star Wars, but it’d be as exciting as grabbing power converters at the Tosche Station. I will say it all started out when I was 5 years old, seeing A New Hope on VHS for the first time, and my imagination quickly exploded all over the walls. I’ve not recovered since.

And if Star Wars is my life, then writing is basically oxygen for me. I owe my desire to write all thanks to popping in that VHS tape all those years ago and I’d have a better chance imagining my life without an appendage or two than without Star Wars (I know I’ll feel that way until I become one with the Force). My writing (when not working on the site) is focused on screenplays for film these days, after already having tried my hands with comic books, inappropriate and unofficial school newspapers, short stories, and novels. I’ll go back to all those forms time and again, but my favorite is screenwriting.

But don’t worry, I’m not totally narrowed minded and enjoy tons of other sagas, TV shows, video games, and books that have nothing to do with Star Wars. And when I’m not enjoying some form of media or another, I’m out enjoying life with my main group of friends, all of which I’ve had since grade school. We picked each other’s noses in kindergarten and now we bar hop together… it doesn’t get much better than that.

If the previous paragraphs have interested you (I feel like I’m writing a profile for Match.com or something), you can find out more about me by following my random musing across the interwebs. Feel free to tweet me, e-mail me, friend me on the Playstation Network, or any other form of stalking you can think of and I’ll gladly respond when I get a chance.

I’m on Twitter (and on PSN) under the name @BrushYourTeeth.

A lot of people remember their first time seeing Star Wars as something special; a big event, preceded with fanfare, stories of epic tales and growing up watching a brand new type of movie. This was not my introduction to Star Wars. Rather, I remember watching Star Wars as a young kid, staying up far past his bedtime. After that, I was hooked. I’m sure some exist, but I’m not sure I know of a picture of me taken before 2000 where I’m not dressed as Darth Maul.

I was lucky to grow up in a time when Star Wars was still in theaters (and hey, we’re here again, thank the Maker!), so my fandom was fueled by constant newness. I spent recesses (and a few class periods) reading Star Wars, especially Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough for me. College became the Dark Times as I started to walk away from my Star Wars fandom to focus on….well, anything else. With the new canon, I’ve come back full-force (pun intended), even down to the smallest of details (like the bi-monthly Rebels comic most have never heard of…)

Now I’ve diversified my interests. In addition to Star Wars, my interests include very basic tenets of geekdom you can imagine: Doctor Who, Stranger Things, Lord of the Rings (and assorted Middle Earth readings). Outside of the nerdy world, I enjoy studying languages and theology as a grad student in Chicago.
