So, You’re Looking to Get Advanced Reader Copies…

Fans always have a pretty good idea of what to expect from an upcoming Star Wars book or comic release thanks to fansites posting reviews on or before release dates, which is only possible when publishers send ARCs, aka Advanced Reader Copies, for these early reviews. Receiving ARCs is a privilege and something not to be taken lightly, as it requires trust from the publisher, and I’ve been lucky to have access for the Manor but never expect it. But how does one get on the list or start receiving ARCs? Recent excitement around seeing fellow fans with the books early (before even the authors!) has brought up this question, so I’ve put together a little article diving into how I got started here in the US and how you can as well! Behind the Panels: Star Wars Comics and Diversity

Diversity and inclusivity are large topics and important at every level of the content we consume for entertainment, as the world is diverse in of itself and our content should reflect that. With the advent of the new canon in 2014, Star Wars as a whole had a chance to start fresh and work out more diverse stories by a multitude of voices, and while the films (and the TV shows in some regards) haven’t quite lived up to the promise behind the camera (with more happening in front), animation and the publishing side of things gently brought broader representation behind and on the page. We know a lot of this empirically thanks to Eleven-ThirtyEight’s Minority Reports, of which I contributed the comics’ data, but since the data I collected revealed the comics didn’t stray much from the books, it didn’t warrant anything but a mention in the larger conversation in those reports and on the Manor here…that is until 2021 brought a reportable change on several metrics the comics have often lagged behind on. It felt like a good time to finally explore the comics by themselves then, to dig through the data and see what had changed and chart a path forward for how the comics could continue the new trend. Aphra and the Month-Long Ego Boost! Giveaway Details, 31 Days of Aphra Twitter Prompts!

Doctor-Aphra-Ego-Boost-Hype-Mynock-Manor

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, but I know there are so many more fans of her walking chaos out there, so I decided to celebrate the latest anniversary of her first appearance with a Month-Long Ego Boost aka a month-long series of prompts on Twitter (using the hashtag #31DaysAphra) to let everyone show their love for the rogue archaeologist! Since she’s often scrounging up valuable loot, I felt it was necessary to include some giveaways in the process, so US fans will have two prizes and International fans will have one, as I’m not completely made out of money or sold enough ancient weapons for profit yet! To get all the details on the giveaways, like how to enter and what the prizes are, while also seeing the full set of prompts so you can prepare yourself when it begins March 1, 2022, head below now! Actions Have Consequences: Lucasfilm No Longer Working With Gina Carano Due to Her Anti-Semitic, Transphobic Views

Gina Carano Let Go by Lucasfilm News

Yesterday shouldn’t have been the final straw for Gina Carano, instead what concerned Lucasfilm back in November, enough to make them question her leading her own show (likely Rangers of the New Republic), should’ve been when they cut her loose. Unfortunately, there was no word, one way or another, as she spread anti-science ideas, false election fraud claims, support of the violent insurrection on January 6, anti-semitic memes, and transphobic behavior in tweets/Instagram posts long after November, leaving trans/non-binary fans (and any fan of Star Wars who understands her actions are antithetical to what the franchise stands for) to feel forgotten by Lucasfilm as she featured more prominently in The Mandalorian’s second season. Welcome to Mynock Manor!

Welcome to Mynock Manor: Hyperspace’s Last Stop!

You’ve had a long journey, so take a moment to rest on your laurels and enjoy the many comforts the Manor has to offer. While we’ll certainly have a Star Wars-heavy focus, any franchise and all types of geekery are open for expression in the hallowed halls and rooms of Mynock Manor.

At the moment, the Head (and only) Butler for Mynock Manor is Ryan Malin (who you can find out more about in the About the Manor section). Being an ex-writer for the now offline Knights’ Archive, several articles and posts from his time there will be brought over to the Manor. They’ll occasionally contain a disclaimer at the top of the article.

But fear not! Mynock Manor will be home to a plethora of new content for you to shake your Donkey Kong-sized fist at or wiggle your dragon tails about. The Reviews section will house all the Manor’s recommendations regarding anything from novels, comics, video games, movies (whether they be Star Wars, Marvel, DC, video game adaptions, etc.) and even TV episodes. The Confessions of a Mynock Manor Butler section will be where opinion articles will be roomed. And the Mynock Manor Services on the right contains hotlinks to various categories of articles found on the site. So make sure to follow us on Twitter at @MynockManor to stay ahead of the game and know just when our geek-focused news and ramblings are ready for your consumption.

I hope you enjoy your stay at Mynock Manor and we look forward to your next visit (if you can leave that is, as the mynocks might have gotten to the power cables aboard your transport device of choice. Which the Manor isn’t liable for)! Continue reading “Welcome to Mynock Manor!”
