High Republic News: Next Audiobook, Tempest Breaker, Out December 3

Every Phase of The High Republic gets an audiobook original and Phase III: Trial of the Jedi’s is finally revealedTempest Breaker, written by Cavan Scott and featuring a full cast again! By the title and cover alone, Scott returns to the dastardly Lourna Dee again, but this time she’s joined by…friends? Who are Jedi?! What is going on here?! Reading Scott’s current The High Republic – Phase III run for Marvel will offer the biggest hints on how we get to this point, but there’s no doubts Tempest Breaker will be quite the story if it stars Lourna Dee and Jedi Masters Keeve Trennis and Avar Kriss! Check out more details below from the interview with Scott, but The High Republic – Tempest Breaker is out December 3, with the script book a few months later (unfortunately).

I’m still working on my review of The High Republic #4 – Phase III, but without spoiling too much, the issue sees Lourna Dee, a captive of Jedi Master Keeve Trennis after the events of issue #3, becoming helpful to Keeve and her goal of tracking down and saving her Master, Sskeer! There’s certainly a comradery forming between the former Nihil and the newly anointed Master, but to the point these two, alongside Avar Kriss, all team up? Not quite yet, but with Tempest Breaker out in December, there’s plenty of time for the series to fill in the blanks, especially if it truly will end with its tenth issue, likely out in August if there are no delays. I love there’s such history between the three women, as Kriss was convinced Dee was the Eye of the Nihil and nearly killed her in the process, with only Keeve there to rescue the Nihil from death, so them all together should provide plenty of humor, and introspection, from Scott’s script. And sparks, Scott promised in the article and on social media, to the point his response to my excitement about the upcoming audiobook said it would be more like an inferno than just sparks! Take from that what you will, but the excitement builds!

I’ve really grown to like these audiobook originals, as a full cast just really gives it both a more epic feeling and that old school radio show vibe, and Tempest Runner, Lourna Dee’s first starring role that dove into her past and explored her fracture from the Nihil, was quite the journey! I’ll be curious which characters, and voice actors, will return for Tempest Breaker, though I hope some of the audio issues, like too similar sounding voices or lack of clarity in some of the battle/fighting scenes, isn’t as pervasive in this release. Whether they are or aren’t, not having the script book release the same day, even despite all the calls from fans who are hearing impaired on many different levels from the past few releases, is a disappointment once again, as it would help negate the issues I’ve stated and allow all fans to enjoy it at once.

In the end, I’m very hyped for this triple power threat of Lourna Dee, Keeve Trennis, and Avar Kriss, so check back closer to release for our review of The High Republic: Tempest Breaker, out December 3!
