While the comics continue their part of Phase III: Trials of the Jedi for The High Republic era, the first Wave of novels are done and Wave II is on its way starting in June with Temptation of the Force. Joining the second wave are the usual young adult and middle grade entries, Tears of the Nameless and Beware the Nameless respectively, and we finally had their covers revealed! Head below to meet some new characters and get a full look at their great covers!
We’re starting with Beware the Nameless, written by Zoraida Córdova, because it’s out first on August 27, but also because we all need to meet: Churo the Hutt! That friendly looking Hutt, who seems more like an explorer or scientist than the stereotypical gangster ones we meet, looks like they’d give out hugs like all the other High Republic characters love to do (paging Diego Luna). On top of the new Hutt character, we have a Greylark descendant on the far left in Zenny Greylark, though their parentage remains to be revealed…is it a grandchild of Axel Greylark and Gella Nattai, against all odds given their past and Gella’s Jedi status? Or did Axel end up finding someone else? Either way, love to have another potential chaos creating Greylark and absolute adore this is where Córdova returns to the High Republic, having written Convergence and a younger Axel story in Tales of Light and Life! And lastly, the return of Kildo, a favorite from Escape from Valo, while the blurb mentions Tep-Tep, the creature loving youngling, and more Ram Jomaram, always a delight to see. The fact they’ll all end up against the Nameless is a frightening prospect, as even though this is a middle grade book, that doesn’t mean everyone will get out alive!
The High Republic continues in this fast-paced adventure that picks up from Escape from Valo, perfect for fans of sci-fi action. Think Sailor Moon meets Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting by way of Star Wars…with a dash of Last Kids on Earth!
This next installment in the New York Times best-selling series is written by award-winning author Zoraida Córdova and features six full-color pages of art!
It is a dark and dangerous time for the galaxy, and the Jedi of the High Republic must face their greatest trials yet. Over a year has passed since the destruction of the Starlight Beacon space station, and hopeful Jedi-in-training–including Tep Tep and Kildo from Escape from Valo–must work with Ram Jomaram and a few new friends to overcome their fears…and stop the monsters that threaten the very existence of the Jedi. Even the most reluctant readers won’t be able to put this down!
Corey Brickley is back with the Tears of the Nameless cover and THEY DO NOT MISS! Like wow, the menacing colors and look of the Nameless surrounding poor Reath Silas and Amadeo Azzazzo is chilling! Corey posted an unlettered copy of the artwork for all your phone/computer/what-have-you background needs! We most recently saw Reath in Defy the Storm, where an epilogue chapter introduced the fact he’s talking to fallen Jedi Azlin Rell to help the Jedi understand the Nameless and it’s easily as chilling a read as the great artwork for this cover. I’ll be interested to see what theories they’ll be testing against the Nameless and how it all works out for them…will we see our first success, and will it be one that can be replicated, or will it be a false hope? Of all the people to bring such a story to life, George Mann should be just right for that! It’s out September 24.
It’s been over a year since the fall of the Starlight Beacon space station, and both heroes and villains alike must face the consequences of their decisions. When Jedi Knight Reath and Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo are sent on a mission to test their theories about the Nameless, they’ll come face-to-face with the terrifying creatures once thought to be myth–and learn the true meaning of fear…fear that fallen Jedi Azlin Rell advised them to embrace if they have any hope of defeating the monsters…
It sounds like more news for The High Republic is on its way in the coming weeks, so we’ll have it here at the Manor as it arrives!
