As darkness takes hold around the galaxy, Jacen Solo is given an ultimatum: choose the darkness and make a sacrifice, or come back to the light. How will Jacen’s choice shake the galaxy to its core? Join me as I journey to Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice!
Since the birth of the Sith, the dark side has grown unencumbered by few rules. In the time of the Sith Empire, and in the times of the Mandalorian Wars, the Sith did what they pleased. Well, as long as what they pleased to do involved conquest, death, and destruction. When Darth Bane reformed the Sith, he gave them one rule, the Rule of Two. This Rule made it so that there would only be two Sith at a time. Even this rule was mostly circumvented, and the Sith continued to raise apprentices and do whatever they liked. But if there was one rule that all Sith followed, it was that a great sacrifice was necessary to become a true Sith Lord. And now, Sith Lady Lumiya is calling Jacen to task: it is time, she says, for him to make his sacrifice.
Jacen’s descent into the darkness continues as he tries to convert young Ben Skywalker to the dark side as well. Ben returns from his mission with a Sith meditation sphere called Ship, giving the Amulet of Kalara to Jacen. Jacen is satisfied with the rate of Ben’s progress as a Sith adept, but Lumiya grows more concerned neither Jacen nor Ben is turning to the darkness fast enough. She pushes Jacen: the time is near, if not now, to finally make his sacrifice and accept his true fate as a Sith Lord. Thankfully, across the galaxy, Mara Jade Skywalker’s maternal instincts and Force sensitivity are meshing to help her realize Ben is in danger, not just physically, but spiritually, too.
Jacen’s descent to darkness also has a galactic impact. He and Cha Niathal are planning together on removing Chief of State Cal Omas from his position of leadership in the Galactic Alliance and rule in his place. With both the power of the Alliance fleet and of the Galactic Alliance Guard behind them, they believe in a firmer hand in quelling rebellions and ruling across the galaxy. Jacen makes a few major moves to cement his political power. First, he arms the Galactic Alliance Guard, turning them into an overpowered and over-armed police state. Second, he sets out to assassinate the Corellian Prime Minister, which he does with the unknowing help of Ben Skywalker. (Unbeknownst to them at the time, Cal Omas was holding secret meetings with the Corellians to try and bid for peace, ending the second civil war that engulfed the galaxy.) The Prime Minister is killed, and Cal is removed from office for acting outside of the parameters of his job as Chief of State. Finally, Jacen and Cha take over leadership of the Alliance, even though they are not officially Chiefs of State.
As the Second Galactic Civil War heats up, other planets, sometimes operating under their own devices and wishes, find themselves unable to avoid joining the greater conflict. For example, Boba Fett’s personal mission to end the accelerated aging process built into clones by the Kaminoans gets cuaght up in the bigger picture. As Boba Fett finds his way back to Mandalore, he is crowned Manda’lor, leader of the warrior clans. He declares Mandalore will be neutral in the war between the Alliance and Corellia, instead focusing on his own goals. Boba, and his granddaughter Mirta Gev, travel the galaxy to find clones who have eventually found ways around the aging process. As Boba searches for answers, the Mandalorians find a hidden cache of beskar, which they plan to sell to the galaxy at large. This brings them into conflict with the Murkhanans, who are sided with the Alliance, which threatens to bring Mandalore, inadvertently, into the Civil War on the side of Corellia.
Unfortunately for the galaxy, in a way, Ben Skywalker learns Jacen and Lumiya are working together. He immediately tells Mara and she rushes across the galaxy to confront Jacen and try and bring him back to the light side. When this fails, the two begin a long clash, which begins in space and ends with a lightsaber duel. Jacen tricks Mara and kills her with a poisonous dart to the leg. Echoing her own final commission from the late Sheev Palpatine, Mara tells Jacen Luke will avenge her and end his reign of terror. She dies, and Lumiya, Luke, and Ben sense her death across the galaxy. Lumiya is convinced Jacen can now become the Sith Lord he is destined to be, while Luke races to confront Lumiya, whom he believes has killed Mara. Luke and Lumiya duel, and Luke decapitates the Dark Lady shortly before learning she was not actually the person who killed Mara. Luke is thrown into greater grief, both for his late wife and for the way he killed the wrong person.
Jacen, having made his sacrifice, and losing his Sith mentor, becomes the Sith Lord Caedus. Caedus, now fully committed to the teachings of the Sith, now stands at the top of the galaxy, which will soon be consumed within an Inferno…
