The death of Grand Admiral Thrawn has served as a boon to the New Republic. The government launches operations to finally rid the galaxy of the remaining Imperial warlords…but a thought-dead opponent resurfaces in time to become a major thorn in their side. Join the Legendary Adventures as we read Isard’s Revenge!
The last great Admiral of the Empire is dead. As Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade battled a dark Jedi on Wayland, Grand Admiral Thrawn oversaw a battle that ended in the defeat of Imperial forces at Bilbringi. Now the New Republic, operating out of a posture of victory, aims to take out some of the remaining warlords that still handle pockets of resistance across the galaxy. Two of these warlords, Isard and Zsinj, were thought to be taken care of by Wedge Antilles’ Rogue Squadron. Turns out, Isard may not be as dead as she seems…
After his promotion to General, Wedge Antilles accepts a mission: take down Prince-Admiral Delak Krennal. Krennal oppressively rules over the Ciutric Hegemony, one of the last strongholds of Imperial power. The death of Admiral Krennal would be a massive loss to the beleaguered Empire, hopefully pushing the Empire closer and closer to its final defeat. Corran Horn uses this as a chance to figure out what happened to the rest of the prisoners held with him on the Lusankya under Isard. One of the prisoners actually resurfaces, but dies due to an implanted booby-trap. Again, Rogue Squadron has been infiltrated – and, even worse, there’s a trap that threatens them more than prince Krennal.
The extent of the enemy plan slowly unfurls: Admiral Isard is still alive, and she has allied herself with Krennal to position him as the new Emperor. Or, that seems to be the plan. As Rogue Squadron chases down rumors that Krennal has a superweapon, TIE fighters ambush them. After losing two of their members, TIE defenders actually serve as their savior. The Defenders were authorized by Isard herself, who suggests to the Rogues that she is working to take down Krennal. She baits them with some good news before hitting them with something almost unbelievable. The prisoners, she says, are with Krennal on Ciutric. Krennal, though, is working with a mad clone of Isard.
So, what is Isard really after? Is she a traitor, actually working with Krennal, or is she really trying to take him down? As Rogue Squadron, and a few major ships from the New Republic fleet discover, she is telling the truth. On Ciutric, the Rogues destroy Krennal and the clone. But Isard withdraws the help she promised, instead going after her true aim: the Lusankya. The Star Destroyer, taken during the Bacta War, operates as a New Republic base. Isard will not stand for this, and demands it back. A few of the Rogues learn of this plan, killing Isard, blocking her from stealing the Destroyer. The Star Destroyer remains in New Republic custody for today.
The celebrations seem to offer a nice change of pace to the pilots. In fact, other than the slight problem of the resurrection of Emperor Sheev Palpatine (in Dark Empire, a comic exclusive story), nothing happens for two years. But when Luke tries to start a new Jedi Academy…everything that can go wrong does.
Legendary Travel Tips:
-This book serves as a sequel to The Thrawn Trilogy and is followed, in the novels, by The Jedi Academy Trilogy. Dark Empire takes place between this novel and the next trilogy, but neither books mentions the comic due to the real world release order.
