Fables from within the Star Wars galaxy have provided two excellent books so far, but with their spookier focus, it was about time to switch to something a little more festive: Life Day! In Life Day Treasury: Holiday Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away, the latest in-universe folklore collection, writers George Mann and Cavan Scott, with illustrator Grant Griffin, will bring the holiday cheer to fans this September. Check out some artwork below and reveals of what two stories will be about! Update 9/17: Here’s our review of Life Day Treasury!
I’ve really come to enjoy the fable collection books so far, which started with George Mann and Grant Griffin’s Myths & Fables and continued in Dark Legends, as they’ve offered some truly frightening and engaging tales, while the artwork has been stupendous time and time again. The releases for these books have been a bit muddled, as there’s the original editions, Target-exclusive editions, and even a Galaxy’s Edge-exclusive edition for M&F (which was thankfully sold online due to the pandemic halting many people traveling/visiting theme parks), but each new tale added has only made each experience stronger. I hope they don’t do this again for Life Day Treasury, but I’m sure I’ll be heading to Target to grab some new tales regardless, so I’m part of the problem!
With Cavan Scott co-writing Life Day Treasury with George Mann, it’s no surprise one of the tales takes place in The High Republic era, starring Jedi Master Stellan Gios, as seen above in Griffin’s illustration, titled “Heart of the Jedi.” Stellan hasn’t factored heavily into much of the released content so far, but considering he’s close friends with Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann, the latter of which will feature in Scott’s The High Republic – The Rising Storm (the second adult novel of Phase 1: Light of the Jedi), I expect we’ll have more with Stellan soon.
*Insert Thor Yelling Yes.gif* Ewoks in the snow! Ewoks in the snow! I repeat, red alert of cuteness overload, EWOKS IN THE SNOW. I mean, that’s all we need to know for that one. I’m sold. Sign me up. Though when saving the file to post here, I noticed they labeled it “The Kroolok,” which I’m assuming is the name of the tale and the monster in the background I didn’t notice right away.
I’ll be curious if they slyly reference either of the Holiday Specials (the original or the LEGO one) with one of the tales, while the official description on Disney Books’ website mentions Wookiees and droids, so there’s that to look forward too. I really, really hope there’s some Holiday Special mentions, but with Ewoks in the snow, I won’t be too disappointed if there aren’t any!
Life Day Treasury: Holiday Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away is out September 7!
