Marvel’s 2024 Black History Month Variant Covers Revealed!

After a few years of Pride Month covers, in 2023 Marvel added Black History Month and Women’s History Month variant covers for Star Wars comics as well, and it looks like 2024 will cement these as tradition! Ken Lashley takes the reins for 2024’s Black History Month Variants for five powerfully gorgeous covers, starring Mace Windu, Bell Zettifar, Captain Panaka, Kawlan Roken, and Adi Gallia. It’s a great line-up and I really do like these covers, but only have Adi Gallia to liven up the gender representation, especially after last year was a little more diverse, is disappointing. Still, very glad these are back and hope they continue for the foreseeable future! Head below for a look at all five covers and what issues they appear on.

Curiously missing are covers for issues of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show’s comic adaptation, the finale issue for which still hasn’t had a release date, as well as Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2), which we had a jump-scare about it ending in January’s solicitations. Are these series not releasing issues in February then or just didn’t make the cut? It would make more sense they aren’t having issues in February, considering Kawlan Roken is from the Obi-Wan show and him being on the cover of its finale, if it comes out in February, would be a no-brainer, so having him on Star Wars #43 (Vol. 2) would only be if there’s not an issue, surely. We’ll know more about February’s releases potentially late next week when the solicitations would likely come out. Either way, I’m glad the Mace Windu miniseries will premiere not only in February, but will have its titular character on its variant cover!

So without further ado, here are the great covers by Ken Lashley:

February 7:

Mace Windu #1 with, you guessed it, Mace Windu!

February 14:

Darth Vader #43 (Vol. 3) featuring Adi Gallia

February 21:

Star Wars #43 (Vol. 2) stars Kawlan Roken, from Obi-Wan Kenobi

February 28:

Thrawn: Alliances #2 has Captain Panaka!

March 6 (issue was delayed, unfortunately):

The High Republic #4 – Phase III puts Bell Zettifar on its cover, alongside his good girl, Ember!

We should be getting previews for the Women’s History Month covers, out in March, sometime during December, if it’s anything like this reveal was.
