It’s time to stop reading about The Rise of Skywalker footage from D23 2019 over the weekend and actually get to watch it! The new footage is nothing short of epic, from the scale of Kylo Ren and Rey’s lightsaber battle, the giant, silent fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers (not First Order!), a glimpse of more Leia, Rey throwing her saber, Sheev Palpatine’s creepy words, and of course the shot we’ve been talking about all weekend: Rey, hooded and cloaked in black, flipping open a double-bladed red lightsaber. Is it a vision? How much of a misdirect is this shot? Is all part of Rey’s plan, whatever they maybe? December 20 just became a helluva lot further away!
