After years of rumors and scoops, especially from the ever wonderful and resourceful Jordan Maison over at Cinelinx, what was always a dream of many is now real: Knights of the Old Republic is being remade by Aspyr for PS5 (a timed console launch exclusive)! The brief teaser arrived at the start of PlayStation’s latest State of Play presentation, and while it contains no release date or actual gameplay footage, our Lord Revan looks glorious in HD, doesn’t she?! Over on the PlayStation Blog, Aspry talks a little about their process for rebuilding the game from the ground up and honoring its legacy, making it great for fans new and old. Video Game Review: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords

– Spoiler Review –

Before this review starts in earnest, let me point out a couple of things. Below is a review of Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords with both the Restored Content Mod and M4-78 Planet Mod, which are both readily available for free on PC (at the link). Likewise, Steam’s Workshop allows you to simple update KotOR 2 with TSLRCM and M4-78 without even having to leave Steam, so not updating this classic the next time you play would be silly. Therefore, this review is of the “complete” version of KotOR 2 (well, as complete as the excellent work of the modders can make it!). – The following contains spoilers for several games –

Update 6/7/14: This article originally appeared on Knights’ Archive on 8/23/13, before the EU reboot was announced. Parts have been added to this article to reflect the new dawn of Star Wars storytelling.

You swivel the turret, attempting to keep the asteroid shaped objects currently assailing the Falcon within your targeting frame. You snap off a few shots, but the yorik coral black hole defenses suck in every one. A torpedo distracts the yorik’s defenses and your next shots chip chunks off the living ship, spilling the Vong warriors into the vacuum of space. Video Game Review: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Knights of the Old Republic

-Decade old spoilers below-

Ten years and counting is a long time to hold the top spot for anything. Whether it be sports, Guinness World Records, or bragging rights, holding the number one spot for a decade isn’t easy. And for the time being Knights of the Old Republic, which released in 2003, remains the best Star Wars game ever made. Technical improvements in both gameplay and interface functionality have come a long way in the intervening decade, but even lacking said advances doesn’t take away from the game which redefined what to expect in Star Wars gaming and gaming in general. Update: the game is officially receiving a remake on PS5, PC, and more! Continue reading “Video Game Review: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”
