A Star Wars Anthology Story: Retrospective on Jason Aaron’s Star Wars Comic Run (#1-37)

Since Marvel’s new beginnings with the Star Wars license, the Star Wars mainline series has been the backbone of the comics, providing adventurous tales about the Big Three: Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo. At the helm of the series since the start has been writer Jason Aaron, who has taken us on anthology-lite arcs of story between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, filling in what’s becoming quite the crowded era. His stories contained everything from big surprises were you least expected them to character moments big and small. And after 37 issues, stretching from January 2015 to October 2017, Jason Aaron’s run has come to an end. Having read the series since its inception, it’s time now to look back at Aaron’s legacy as this retrospective discusses what I feel has been the good, the bad, and the in-between of his nearly three year run. Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #25

Star Wars #25

– Spoiler Review –

With Star Wars issue #25, “The Last Flight of the Harbinger”  comes to an end, and even if it’s a snappy, action-packed issue, it’s not enough to save this arc from being one of the series’ first disappointing ones. However I did find something else to enjoy about this issue: there’s a bonus one-shot story made in honor of Kenny Baker, the actor who brought R2-D2 to life for so many years. The Millennium Falcon gets crowded in Han Solo #4 as all the spies, with each one being a potential traitor, come together at last. But will Han finish the mission or risk it all by trying to finish the race? A revealing chat with Loo Re Anno, the first of the spies to die, and the giant threat awaiting each Dragon Void Run pilot in the final leg make this an exciting lead up to the series finale. Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #23

Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #22

Star Wars #22

Spoiler Review –

After the Star Wars series took an issue to introduce a new, deadly squad of stormtroopers, issue #22 begins “The Last Flight of the Harbinger” arc proper with the Rebellion attempting to steal a Star Destroyer. While not the best this series has ever offered, it does at least end on some tantalizing promises for where this arc can go. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #22”

Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #21

Star Wars #21

Spoiler Review –

Before the mainline Star Wars‘ next arc, “The Last Flight of the Harbringer,” truly takes off, issue #21 spends some quality time introducing readers to a unique batch of stormtroopers known as SCAR (Special Commando Advanced Recon) troopers who’ll be causing our heroes grief soon enough.
