Talk about an exciting and thrilling trailer! The Bad Batch is making a gloriously large return this fall, if the trailer is anything to go by, as it even elicited an audible gasp with the return of Jedi Padawan Gungi the Wookiee, while the updated armor is a fun change and the lush animation is hard to look away from. We’ll explore some other details and the questions which arise around Gungi’s return below, but I have to start by covering how unfortunately, while the rest of the clones look to be animated darker like their Māori ancestor, Temuera Morrison aka Jango Fett, the Bad Batch themselves have not been fixed regardless of fan outcry and their initial acknowledgment of the problem (and while the rest of the clones are looking more appropriate, now it means the darker-skinned characters are the ‘villains’), so I don’t believe they ever intended to truly address this issue and it’s a damn shame. Tales of the Jedi Panel: First Details, Ahsoka, Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn And More Confirmed (SWCA 2022)
The newest animation project is Tales of the Jedi, which will consist of 6 tone-poem like episodes focused on two very different characters: Ahsoka Tano and Dooku! Like most panels at Celebration Anaheim 2022, it wasn’t streamed to the general audience and the trailer wasn’t released either, while attendees also got to watch one of the Ahsoka episodes! After seeing a cellphone recording of the trailer and reading through a few live-tweets of the panel, it certainly looks to be an exciting and unique idea, which I hope can be expanded on to include more episodes, more eras, and more characters! Tales of the Jedi will premiere Fall 2022 (so maybe after Andor, just before The Bad Batch season 2?), but head below for some details and images! Marvel Star Wars Comics Panel: Yoda Miniseries, Visions Comics Announced (SWCA 2022)
While earlier panels, like the publishing one and The High Republic‘s gave us glimpses at some of the various upcoming comics from both Dark Horse and Marvel, the latter’s output got its own time to shine. It explored some of what’s to come on series we already know and love and revealed two exciting upcoming projects: a Yoda miniseries spanning different eras of the little green guy’s life and Star Wars: Visions related comics as well! Mando+ Panel: More Season 3 Details, Ahsoka Footage, Sabine Wren Casting Confirmed, and More! (SWCA 2022)
As was the case for the weekend, Mando+, a panel about The Mandalorian Season 3 and ended up including Ahsoka details and first footage, wasn’t screened to the public. In fact, there was a longer version of The Mandalorian S3 teaser from the opening day panel that invitees got to see, alongside the Ahsoka footage, but unfortunately we couldn’t even see the cast and crew together talking about their experiences. So thanks to some live tweets and reporting from those who were there, and some grainy Ahsoka footage I was able to see before it was taken down, let’s explore some of the reveals and details below. The Mandalorian returns February ’23 and Ahsoka sometime later that year. Continue reading “Mando+ Panel: More Season 3 Details, Ahsoka Footage, Sabine Wren Casting Confirmed, and More! (SWCA 2022)”
Jedi: Survivor Trailer, 2023 Release Revealed (SWCA 2022)
The moody first teaser for the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, Jedi: Survivor (confirmed back in January), is more confusing than revealing, but at least BD-1 is in it, so there’s that! Set 5 years after Fallen Order, Survivor promises to expand just about everything from the first, more dynamic planets, lean even heavier into the bond between Cal and BD-1, expand combat even more (please please please stealth options), and more. Ponder of what the teaser means, and check out some screenshots from it below, though at least we won’t have to wait much longer: Jedi: Survivor launches in 2023! The High Republic Phase 2 Detailed, New Books, Covers, Characters Revealed! (SWCA 2022)
Out of all the panels they live-streamed on Day 1 of Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, thankfully it included the nearly hour-long The High Republic panel, which saw the luminous authors, Michael Siglain, Kristina Arielle, and more on the stage together for the first time in a long time, peeling back all the layers on October’s Phase 2 start. There’s tons of new concept art, covers, and title reveals, as well as unique little details on just how much more Wild West 150 years prior to Phase 1’s start the galaxy really is. Strap in for all the covers and particulars below, while you can watch the panel in the video above from the 2:24:17 mark (which is where it should start if you hit play, you’re welcome!), until the 3:40:42 mark now the panel has it’s own video upload! UPDATED to include the reveal of Young Jedi Adventures and the panel specific video Lucasfilm uploaded to YouTube. And don’t forget to visit our High Republic page for all the latest and greatest, like reviews for Phase II as the content begins to arrive! UPDATE: Our Path of Deceit reviews are in! Lucasfilm Publishing Panel (SWCA 2022)
After a little fire alarm called the panel to a quick end, it resumed post-haste with the sly reveal of a Rey/Poe novel, details on the already announced Dark Horse comics, two The High Republic related announcements, the promise of secret projects from select authors, and an intriguing set of photos teasing what other stories are in the mix. Get all the details below, now! Continue reading “Lucasfilm Publishing Panel (SWCA 2022)”
Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)
Since 2015’s Celebration Anaheim, there wasn’t quite been a weekend opening panel like the one with The Force Awakens’ trailer, and well, the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel for Anaheim 2022 wanted to say “hold my spotchka!” but it didn’t quite get there, due to focusing on non-Star Wars projects and by denying this panel to everyone at the convention minus those in the room, it could never quite permeate the weekend like SWCA ’15’s did even if it had a similar show-stopper. Let’s take a moment to address how disappointing, massively so, that they gate-kept this panel from those at home by choosing not to stream it (and the rest of the weekend’s opening panels), with only The Mandalorian’s S3 footage not being shown online anyways, screwing over international fans, fans who can’t come out due to health reasons, fans that can’t come due to COVID and wars, or even just monetary reasons…it’s an extremely inept choice in 2022, especially due to one short teaser, and I wish I could bet on Lucasfilm doing better but I don’t have much faith (like, let us at home pay to watch, even!). That out of the way, head below for the Andor trailer, Jude Law headlining 2023’s Skeleton Crew, and the non-Star Wars news, I guess! Continue reading “Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)”
Celebration Anaheim 2022 Panels Revealed: Tales of the Jedi, High Republic, Bad Batch Season Two, and More!
The full schedule of panels for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 has been revealed, teasing tons of big news and reveals, while also confirming a rumor, of all things! Tales of the Jedi was first rumored after images appeared online of a Lucasfilm Production team gift in December 2021 and now the panel listing for Anaheim 2022 confirmed the show’s existence as an animated anthology of shorts. I don’t expect more details until then, besides maybe a tease on May the Fourth this year, but hopefully it’s shorts like Star Wars Visions, with different creatives for each one and longer than the Galaxy of Adventures micro-shorts. Beyond the show’s reveal, there’s confirmation of a The High Republic focused panel, various publishing panels, the Attack of the Clones 20th Anniversary Celebration, Siege of Mandalore screening, and so much more! There’s no word on what we’ll be able to watch from home for those of us who can’t make it this year (breaking my streak by not going!), but head below to check out some of my picks for panels to enjoy so maybe you can start planning accordingly whether you go or not this year!
