The newest animation project is Tales of the Jedi, which will consist of 6 tone-poem like episodes focused on two very different characters: Ahsoka Tano and Dooku! Like most panels at Celebration Anaheim 2022, it wasn’t streamed to the general audience and the trailer wasn’t released either, while attendees also got to watch one of the Ahsoka episodes! After seeing a cellphone recording of the trailer and reading through a few live-tweets of the panel, it certainly looks to be an exciting and unique idea, which I hope can be expanded on to include more episodes, more eras, and more characters! Tales of the Jedi will premiere Fall 2022 (so maybe after Andor, just before The Bad Batch season 2?), but head below for some details and images!
These 6 episodes will have minimal dialogue, going for tone-poem vibe, and will let the animation do most of the talking, and since it’s The Bad Batch level, it’s going to be beautiful.
While having Ahsoka back in animation, and uncovering her origins a bit more, is enticing, exploring Count Dooku’s past is easily my most anticipated aspect to Tales of the Jedi. Mainly, it’s due to how his three episodes will include Qui-Gon Jinn, one of my favorite Jedi of all time! We’ll get to see Qui-Gon as a Padawan, only glimpsed in projects like Master & Apprentice and Dooku: Jedi Lost, and he’ll be voiced not only by Liam Neeson again (so we’ll see Qui-Gon at an older age), but also Liam’s son in the character’s younger years! As seen in the trailer, even Yaddle makes an appearance and it clearly looks to be a dark moment for her and Dooku’s trajectory, as Yaddle is seemingly in the Sith’s headquarters glimpsed at the end of Attack of the Clones! So yeah more Yaddle but oh no, maybe no more Yaddle! Beyond that, another story looks to maybe include Mace Windu at some point too, but either way the potential for Dooku’s 3 episodes is through the roof. Update: after seeing a longer version of the trailer, Dooku’s episodes will include Mace Windu and making Qui-Gon quite uncomfortable.
The Ahsoka stories at least look to deal with her origin and a moment from E.K. Johnston’s Ahsoka novel, though it’s not clear what the third one might entail. The first Ahsoka episode was shown to attendees, titled “Life and Death” and features a baby Ahsoka and her mother, named Pav-ti voiced by Iden Versio herself, Janina Gavankar! It takes place on Ahsoka’s homeworld and involves some type of hunt (per Youtini’s live-tweets), though it doesn’t look to include the bounty hunter story Dave Filoni revealed was part of the character’s past a few Celebrations ago. Another episode for Ahsoka looks to cover a pivotal moment from the Ahsoka novel, her fight with the Sixth Brother Inquisitor, which is when she gets her white kyber as she purifies them after the battle! That’ll be very neat to see! As for a third episode, it’s not as clear, but the trailer included Rex and a mullet and Clone Wars armor Obi-Wan, so maybe very early in the Clone Wars? Update: After seeing a longer version of the trailer, it’s definitely an episode with Anakin as well.
It’s still up, so you can check out the leaked trailer if you’d like here, or well, here’s the full leaked version that I didn’t see until Monday evening, while the great team at Youtini has plenty of live-tweets and photos from the panel! Hopefully it’ll be officially revealed soon, as Fall 2022 isn’t that far away!
