Revealed at NYCC 2019, The Clone Wars Anthology middle-grade novel has since gotten an updated cover, new titling, and an awesome artist reveal! Now titled The Clone Wars – Stories of Light and Dark, and still set for August 25 release, 10 of the 11 included stories will feature retellings of classic TCW episodes and arcs, while 1 features a brand-new tale about the Nightsisters! More details below.
The list of announced authors has only added one more, E. Anne Convery, otherwise the remaining others include: Lou Anders, Preeti Chhibber, Zoraida Córdova, Jason Fry, Rebecca Roanhorse, Greg Van Eekhout, Tom Angleberger, Sarah Beth Durst, Yoon Ha Lee, and Anne Ursu. We already know Roanhorse is writing a Maul story while Córdova has Asajj Ventress, while the rest remain secret. With such a wide variety of authors, I’m really intrigued and excited for this book, even if it’s mainly rehashing episodes of the show, as seeing events from a different angle/POV could offer plenty of opportunity and a literal new perspective. Of course the original story about the Nightsisters will be the biggest potential draw, and while that’s all we know about it at the moment, I’m hoping it could dive into Merrin’s story from Jedi: Fallen Order, though that might be a tad too dark for a middle-grade novel.
To coincide with the updated cover, its artist has been announced: Ksenia Zelentsova, who might be better known as lorna_ka on Twitter! Her work is absolutely fantastic and I’ve featured it on the site as often as I can, especially during the Star Wars Rebels days, as she made heart-breaking after heart-breaking piece, along with many others to commemorate the series and its characters. She’ll be providing original watercolor artwork for the series’ many memorable characters, a preview of which you can see in the latest This Week! in Star Wars episode. You can find more of her artwork at lornaka.com!
As for other The Clone Wars content this year, we’re nearing the end of TCW on Disney+, with a recent TV spot teasing an epic finale for the show, while IDW’s The Clone Wars – Battle Tales looks to be delayed until June, but you can check out our interview with the series’ writer, Michael Moreci, in the meantime!
