The Force Awaken’s “(Just) Let It In,” – A Parody of Frozen’s “Let It Go”

Let It In vs Let It GoEver since I heard Maz Kanata’s line at the end of the new The Force Awakens trailer, I couldn’t get it out of my head: “Just let it in.” Part of it stuck with me because it promised hope for whomever the character was talking to (likely Rey), while the other because it sounded so suspiciously close to “Let it Go,” the hit song from Disney’s Frozen. Once I made the subconscious connection between the two, I was unable to shake the thought of “Let it In” and “Let It Go” being so similar. It got to the point where I was hearing “Let It In” replacing the words “Let It Go” in Idina Menzel’s song and that’s when it hit me: the only way to get the two unconnected in my head was to go all out and completely redo Elsa’s showstopping number “Let It Go” to become Rey’s breakout hit, “Let It In.” Maybe not the best idea, but below are the results.

I’m no songwriter, nor have I ever been a good poet, but here’s my attempt at a little bit of both in, “Let It In,” a The Force Awakens song to be sung by Rey. I tried to best match the lyrics to what we have all learned about Rey so far. Please note: the original lyrics to “Let It Go” are in parenthesis and any line in “Let It In” without parenthesis following it means I kept the original lyrics:

“Let It In”

The moon glows white on the Destroyers tonight (The snow glows white on the mountain tonight)
Not a lifeform to be seen (Not a footprint to be seen)
Jakku’s a planet of antiquities (A kingdom of isolation,)
And it looks like I’m their scavenger queen. (And it looks like I’m the queen.)

TIEs are howling like this swirling storm inside (The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside)
Couldn’t keep it out, the Force knows I tried! (Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried!)

Don’t let them learn, don’t let them know (Don’t let them in, don’t let them see)
Be the no one you always should be (Be the good girl you always have to be)
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know!

Just let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
Turn ‘round and open the Falcon’s door! (Turn away and slam the door!)

I don’t care
What my famous parents will say (What they’re going to say)
Let the Force flow through me (Let the storm rage on)
Its strength never bothered me anyway! (The cold never bothered me anyway!)

It’s funny how some friends (It’s funny how some distance)
Makes Jakku seem oh so small (Makes everything seem small)
And the isolation that once controlled me (And the fears that once controlled me)
Won’t hold me back no more! (Can’t get to me at all!)

It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No fear, no anger, no hate for me I’m the light! (No right, no wrong, no rules for me I’m free!)

Just let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
I am one with the Force inside (I am one with the wind and sky)
Let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
Here’s hoping you’ll never see me cry! (You’ll never see me cry!)

Here I stand
And to the galaxy I’ll go (And here I’ll stay)
Let the Force flow through me! (Let the storm rage on!)

Its power flows through everything that surrounds us all (My power flurries through the air into the ground)
I can connect as one with the life all around (My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around)
And one message comes from the ethereal Force (And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast)
Don’t ever go back, (I’m never going back,)
Jakku is in the past! (The past is in the past!)

Just let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
When I’ll rise like the Sword of the Jedi (When I’ll rise like the break of dawn)
Let it in, let it in (Let it go, let it go)
The lonely scavenger is gone! (That perfect girl is gone!)

Here I stand
In the light of hyperspace (In the light of day)
Let the Force flow through me (Let the storm rage on)
Its strength never bothered me anyway! (The cold never bothered me anyway!)

Hope you enjoyed it! Now paging Idina Menzel….or Daisy Ridley!
