Shortly after EA got the Star Wars license, we were treated to an extremely brief CG trailer teaser of Star Wars: Battlefront at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2013. Since then, the developers at DICE have been eerily silent about the game but it was a guarantee we’d be seeing something this year. Today, at the EA presser, the above video was unveiled containing in-engine footage from the upcoming Battlefront entry. In it, we at least know why DICE was quiet: they were busy checking out the hallowed Lucasfilm Archives and freezing their rear ends on Hoth so much they couldn’t bring themselves to talk. But other than that, we still don’t know much regarding the actual game.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say I was a tad disappointed with today’s video of Battlefront. Mainly, because I was expecting gameplay footage and well, we did technically got some, just not a lot. It was excruciatingly short, but it looks exceptionally impressive and worth even just the little tidbit we did get. The way the forest looked even while that speeder bike was driving wildly through it is an image I’m having a hard time getting out of my head. However, we still don’t know really anything about the specifics of the game or how it’ll play. We did get a spring 2015 release window, meaning we’re roughly a year away from the game, but if they miss that window I won’t get angry since that means more time to polish this highly anticipated title.
And to those saying this is Battlefront 3…you’re gonna have to let it go. Battlefront 3 was cancelled and scrapped and this is DICE’s version of Battlefront. Sorry.
In the mean time, check out the new official Star Wars EA site, StarWars.ea.com.
