D23 2024: Skeleton Crew Trailer, Andor Season Two Details, and More!

D23 hasn’t always been the place to go for Lucasfilm announcements or reveals, and it still was pretty subdued this year too (not even an The Acolyte season two announcement?!), but we did get our first public Skeleton Crew trailer, while panel-goers where treated to a sizzle reel for Andor season two and some brief shots from The Mandalorian and Grogu film. We also got a great look at the wild Rebuild the Galaxy LEGO special earlier in the day, so head below for a summary of what we all learned!

The Mandalorian & Grogu Film Announced, Season 2 of Ahsoka Confirmed

After the way things ended in The Mandalorian season three, a disappointingly easy and far too quick conclusion to the series’ story so far, Jan Favreau and the story get to fail upwards in the first new Star Wars film to go into productionThe Mandalorian & Grogu. Is it the start of a series of films? Is it bringing Din Djarin and Grogu’s story to an end? Or just picking it up until Dave Filoni’s film wraps up all the Mando-verse shows story? Will Pedro Pascal be more than the voice of Din for the film at least? Why couldn’t it just be another, shorter season of the show instead? And…is that really the title? Hopefully we’ll learn more soon since it’s set to be in production later this year. Also stealthily announced was a second season of Ahsoka, which was all but certain given how it all ended, but never confirmed until now. The Mandalorian & Grogu joins the upcoming slate of films which includes Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey/New Jedi Order (my most anticipated!), James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi, and the aforementioned Dave Filoni one.

News: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Trailer, Jedi Battle Scars Cover Revealed, The Mandalorian S3 Premieres March 1

While we are primarily a Star Wars blog, Lucasfilm does more than Star Wars (I’m going to start watching the Willow show soon), the mynocks would never let me not mention Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had its first trailer today (which you can watch below the cut). Back to Star Wars, the upcoming novel Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs had its full cover revealed and a blurb with intriguing new details, along with a confirmed release date of March 7. The fun doesn’t end there, as on March 1, and overlapping with The Bad Batch’s second season, The Mandalorian’s third season premieres. Head below for the new Battle Scars details and its full cover! Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)

Since 2015’s Celebration Anaheim, there wasn’t quite been a weekend opening panel like the one with The Force Awakens’ trailer, and well, the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel for Anaheim 2022 wanted to say “hold my spotchka!” but it didn’t quite get there, due to focusing on non-Star Wars projects and by denying this panel to everyone at the convention minus those in the room, it could never quite permeate the weekend like SWCA ’15’s did even if it had a similar show-stopper. Let’s take a moment to address how disappointing, massively so, that they gate-kept this panel from those at home by choosing not to stream it (and the rest of the weekend’s opening panels), with only The Mandalorian’s S3 footage not being shown online anyways, screwing over international fans, fans who can’t come out due to health reasons, fans that can’t come due to COVID and wars, or even just monetary reasons…it’s an extremely inept choice in 2022, especially due to one short teaser, and I wish I could bet on Lucasfilm doing better but I don’t have much faith (like, let us at home pay to watch, even!). That out of the way, head below for the Andor trailer, Jude Law headlining 2023’s Skeleton Crew, and the non-Star Wars news, I guess! Continue reading “Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)”

Ewok TV Movies, Tartakovsky Clone Wars Cartoon, and more Legends Content Join Disney+ April 2

Legends Ewoks Movies Holiday Special Tartakovsky Clone Wars on Disney Plus

Star Wars Day comes early this year! Long before Disney bought Lucasfilm, or George Lucas himself started making animated projects, Star Wars branched out to TV in a variety of ways and now some of that Legends content comes to Disney+ (at least in the US) starting April 2! The list is a fun and surprising chunk of content: the two Ewok TV movies, Caravan of Courage and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor; the two seasons of the animated Ewoks show; the two Volumes of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars from 2003-2005; and most surprisingly of all, “The Story of the Faithful Wookiee,” better known as the animated segment of the original Holiday Special (!) introducing Boba Fett. Head below for some thoughts on the releases and yes…there might be some reviews on Mynock Manor come April! Future of Star Wars Unveiled: Rogue Squadron Movie, TV Series Lando, Andor, The Acolyte and More Announced!

The Future of Star Wars Disney Investors Day 2020 Image

Star Wars is dead…long live Star Wars! And honestly, I have no clue how or where to begin this ginormous, overwhelming drop of news about the future of Star Wars, as there are nearly 10 new series announced for Disney+ and a new movie from Patty Jenkins called Rogue Squadron all set to hit our collective eyeballs in the next few years! I am absolutely thrilled at all this content coming, though a little anxious about it being too much, but let’s not worry about that and unpack all the new series and movie announced today at the Disney Investors Call. New Star Wars Film from Taika Waititi and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, New TV Series from Leslye Headland

Via Lucasfilm

There have been a lot of great presents for Star Wars fans on 2020’s May the 4th, and one of the most intriguing gift is the double announcement of a new film and TV series! For the new Star Wars film, it’ll be directed and co-written by Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917), with no details on its content nor release date. Curiously, in the announcement the film was discussed as a “feature film for theatrical release” (emphasis mine), making one wonder if that’s just due to everything going on with theaters being currently closed or they are considering making films for Disney+; Waititi’s involvement confirms rumors from earlier this year. Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) was revealed to be showrunning, writing, and executive producing an unnamed TV series for Disney+. This also confirms recent rumors she was making a show, though time will tell if it’s female-centric as originally reported. Chant “Rise” Alongside All the Jedi When You Bring Home The Rise of Skywalker in March!

The Rise of Skywalker, a mess of a film I still managed to love, launches digitally March 16 and will hit home release March 31, while Disney+ will add it in the summer. Special features include: a feature-length documentary about the making of the film, though it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll only include J.J. Abrams’ time with the film; several behind the scenes featurettes into creature and sequence making; and a digital exclusive about John Williams’ final Star Wars score. The most glaring omission is deleted scenes, though I guess that’s just a ringing endorsement to go pick up TROS’ novelization on March 17 (its first excerpt featured one of many deleted scenes, adding context and slowing down the pace of the film’s opening) and the “Art of” book, out March 31 alongside the film (where leaked pages from the book revealed the deleted scene in the excerpt). The Rise of Skywalker News, Clips, TV Spots, and More Round Up

We’re less than a month from The Rise of Skywalker now, but it’s hard for the internet to talk about anything other than Baby Yoda right now, though Lucasfilm is trying its best to refocus us all onto the end of the Skywalker Saga: from a few TV spots (like the one above), character posters, a high-velocity clip, and more, it’s getting hard not to think about the end.
