battle of jakku high republic covers

Ahead of the SDCC publishing panel on July 25, the official site decided a few reveals were in order, starting with our first glimpse of what’s to follow this current era of comics: The Battle of Jakku maxiseries! Judging from the cover and the description, it looks like the comic will incorporate the defunct mobile game Star Wars: Uprising, as well as the Aftermath Trilogy, to solidify the lead up to the final battle of the Galactic Civil War. We also got covers for some upcoming The High Republic releases early, so between the maxiseries and the covers already being revealed, I expect we’ll be in for quite the treat at this panel! Comic News: Ewoks Miniseries Yub-Nub’s in October, New Era Teased!

ewok miniseries announced new marvel star wars era october

If you look at the history of the current canon comics, the amount of non-human characters headlining anything longer than a one-shot comic, it’s been growing but hasn’t been a ton, as there’s been the Chewbacca miniseries, The High Republic: The Blade, two Darth Maul series, Yoda’s recent, or the Thrawn novel adaptations. And now helping the list grow…an Ewoks four-issue miniseries! As Marvel looks set to go into the post-Return of the Jedi timeline, something they teased before SDCC 2024, one of the first new announcements is a little series putting the furry, cuddly, murder bears from the forest moon of Endor front and center! Written by Steve Orlando, with art from Laura Braga and Álvaro López, Ewoks will begin this October, and so too will the new era of Marvel’s comics. For more details, and the tease of the new era, head below for more! Continue reading “Comic News: Ewoks Miniseries Yub-Nub’s in October, New Era Teased!”

Star Wars Comics September 2024 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics September 2024 Solicitations

In the early 2000/2010’s, September always felt big in Star Wars, be it the release of video games, the films on DVD in new cuts, or the premiere of a new season of The Clone Wars, so it only seems fitting the latest era of comics comes to a giant-sized end during said month with issue #50 for Star Wars (Vol. 2) and Darth Vader (Vol. 3). There is an The Acolyte tie-in and another issue of the Inquisitor-focused miniseries from Marvel to enjoy as well, while Dark Horse continues to deliver more High Republic content than fans can hope, so see what’s all in store in September’s 2024 Star Wars comic solicitations!

Star Wars & Darth Vader 2020 Series End September 2024

star wars darth vader 50 2020 ending september 2024

After months of speculation, and a year or two sort of feeling it was time, the Star Wars (Vol. 2) and Darth Vader (Vol. 3) series which kicked off in 2020 will come to an end September 2024. They’ll both be large issues, 50 pages for 50 issues of storytelling, to help wrap up their stories and close out the era set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. What comes next? Marvel promises we’ll find out in the coming weeks, but could there be hints in the solicitations for the 50th and final issues of each comic? Or most importantly, what would you like to see? Check out the covers, solicitations, and my hope for what’s next below! Continue reading “Star Wars & Darth Vader 2020 Series End September 2024”

Deeper Glimpse of Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay Stirs Hype and Hope

While we’re getting closer and closer to August 30, the release date of Star Wars Outlaws, everything I keep seeing, especially today’s new footage from the Ubisoft Forward 2024 showcase, makes August feel so much further away! We got two new sets of footage, the first being a general gameplay overview that’s almost 4 minutes long (see above!), and then there’s the lengthy 10 minute slice (see below the cut), which gives us a better look at specifics, like the heads-up-display (HUD), the very seamless transitions from ships to planets, and the “Experts” system. So check out the lengthier section and some impressions below! Continue reading “Deeper Glimpse of Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay Stirs Hype and Hope”

Comic News: Kelnacca Headlines The Acolyte Tie-in Comic, Out September!

acolyte kelnacca comic announcement

Chewbacca has delighted fans for decades, his fierce loyalty and huggable appearance making him an easy favorite, brought to life first by Peter Mayhew and later Joonas Suotamo. Legends stories had Wookiee Jedi and lately canon has brought in the emphatic, also fan-favorite Burryaga in The High Republic, and now we’ll get our first live-action lightsaber wielding Wookiee Jedi in The Acolyte: Kelnacca! To celebrate the character, and tie The High Republic era to The Acolyte, which takes place towards its final years, io9 has revealed Marvel has a special one-shot comic all about Kelnacca coming in September, written by THR mastermind Cavan Scott with art from Marika Cresta! More details below! Continue reading “Comic News: Kelnacca Headlines The Acolyte Tie-in Comic, Out September!”

Star Wars Comics August 2024 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics August 2024 Solicitations

Our look at the August 2024 Star Wars comics have arrived, with the solicitations feeling a little light, and getting even lighter, as one series comes to a close. The end for The High Republic – Phase III is coming, though it doesn’t look like it could be the happiest of endings given Nihil mad scientist Baron Boolan has Sskeer in his grasps! Elsewhere, the two main Marvel series, Star Wars (Vol. 2) and Darth Vader (Vol. 3) sound like they’re building towards some big endings for stories as the era looks to wrap up sooner than later, while Dark Horse has some intriguing options for The High Republic fans with plenty of Phase III stories (and is that a Sith?!?). So head below for the August 2024 Star Wars comic solicitations now to hear all about them!

High Republic News: Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone and Echoes of Fear Revealed, June 2025 Phase III Ends, and More!

high republic news echoes of fear dispatches occlusion zone

The High Republic Adventures series from Dark Horse looks to be the incubator for a lot of stories in Phase III of the High Republic, as while there’s already some one-shots and a miniseries, TWO new miniseries have been officially announced/revealed recently: Echoes of Fear and Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone! While one was revealed due to advanced comic solicitations, both got the grand reveal at the Portsmouth Comic Con, where the team also showed off some covers and interiors for other upcoming works, as well as setting a hard date on when the entirety of Phase III will end: June 2025! It might seem sooner than we’d all hope, but it’s sort of nice to know to plan ahead with tissue purchases. Head below for all the new reveals and details! Comic News: 2024’s Pride Month Variants Unleashed

marvel 2024 star wars pride covers

We’ve had some rather great Women’s History and Black History Month variants this year, so the wait has seemed longer to finally see 2024’s Pride Month variants! There aren’t as many series out in June as there has been in the past, so there’s only four covers this year, but they make the most of it with having only one returning perennial character appearance! Head below for the covers!

Final The Acolyte Trailer Promises the Truth is Out There

“No one is safe from the truth” is a wonderful little tagline for The Acolyte, as showrunner/executive producer Leslye Headland has teased multiple times now the show is sort of like an onion, peeling away something new right up until the finale. So one could say, in honor of a show I only started watching two years ago, the truth is out there, somewhere, and it’s up to The Acolyte‘s characters if they want to accept it or not. There’s plenty of mystery to unlock, just from the trailer alone: whose side is Qimir (Manny Jacinto) on, since we see him talking with Mae (Amandla Stenberg)? In the key art poster below, why are there two Mae’s and why does Headland tease this by saying “…embrace the duality that exists in every character,” as is she hinting Mae has a twin?! And Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) asks the one everyone wants to know, “What are you?” to the masked, red-blade wielding character shown in the trailer’s final moments, whom Headland teases is her favorite character, as are they Sith or something else? June 4’s two episode premiere can’t come soon enough! Head below for the poster and some new Databank entries about characters, ships, and droids below!
