News: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Trailer, Jedi Battle Scars Cover Revealed, The Mandalorian S3 Premieres March 1

jedi battle scars cover revealed news

While we are primarily a Star Wars blog, Lucasfilm does more than Star Wars (I’m going to start watching the Willow show soon), the mynocks would never let me not mention Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had its first trailer today (which you can watch below the cut). Back to Star Wars, the upcoming novel Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs had its full cover revealed and a blurb with intriguing new details, along with a confirmed release date of March 7. The fun doesn’t end there, as on March 1, and overlapping with The Bad Batch’s second season, The Mandalorian’s third season premieres. Head below for the new Battle Scars details and its full cover! The Acolyte Cast Announced, Synopsis Revealed

The Acolyte Title Card

Not only are there great Star Wars TV shows already available to watch, but there are plenty more on their way. One of my most anticipated, especially since it ties into the stellar The High Republic initiative, is The Acolyte. The official site provided an update on the show, revealing it not only started production in the UK, but also confirmed rumors and revealed some surprising new cast members to join Amandla Stenberg! Head below for the full list and a neat little behind-the-scenes shot! Continue reading “The Acolyte Cast Announced, Synopsis Revealed”

D23 ’22: Tales of the Jedi and Mandalorian S3 Trailers, Bad Batch S2 Out January ’23, and More!

The D23 Expo in 2022 had a few gifts for Star Wars fans, bringing trailers for Tales of the Jedi (see above!) and The Mandalorian‘s third season to the public after holding them hostage back at Celebration Anaheim ’22, a new trailer for the imminent premiere of Andor, The Bad Batch season 2 pushed from the fall to January 2023, our first glimpse at the Jude Law-led Skeleton Crew, and even the initial concepts for the heroes of The High Republic-set Young Jedi Adventures animated show! Head below for the other new trailers and other details, like the recent casting news (not officially confirmed at D23) for the Ahsoka show! New Andor Trailer Wows, Premiering Sept 21 Now With 3 Episodes

My initial reaction is laden with expletives, because holy mynocks is that a brilliant full trailer for Andor! I love what they’ve managed to do with the Volume to shoot most of the other shows (and can’t wait to see how they continue to use it), but Andor filmed for a long time on a lot of sets and it’s clear from this trailer how visually stunning that’s helped make this show. It looks like another Star Wars movie, but this time on the small screen via Disney+! While it’s disappointing the show’s been delayed until September 21 for its premiere, bringing with it three-episodes instead, I think this trailer shows why it’s going to be way worth that wait. Since I last covered Andor at the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel, while we knew the two season show would take place 5 years prior to Rogue One and lead right into it, it’s since been revealed season 1 will take place over a year, while every three episodes of season two will cover a year, taking us up to the film; it’s a gutsy idea and I can’t wait to see how it’s handled, especially since season one looks so incredible already. Head below for character names and a slick new poster! UPDATE: Here’s our review of the series’ three episode premiere; follow along here for more reviews as the series airs! Star Wars: Visions Panel – Volume 2 Confirmed 2023 (SWCA 2022)

Star Wars Visions Vol 2

Star Wars: Visions was a special project when it dropped in 2021, bringing us 9 unique visions of Star Wars through anime studio’s own ideas and sensibilities, managing to capture that Star Wars feel in a whole new package. For many, it was a gateway into anime, not anime fans it was the perfect marriage of two things they really love. It was just cool overall to see Japanese studios allowed to do their own thing in the universe, so having a panel to look back at the process of making it is such a great idea and a wonderful way to honor the work the various teams brought to the small screen. Thankfully, the first volume of stories isn’t the end of the concept of Visions, as a Volume 2 has been announced for Spring 2023! Head below for more details, like which cultures we’ll see represented with the new teams, and some glimpses of the upcoming Art Of book! The Bad Batch Season 2 Panel (SWCA 2022)

Talk about an exciting and thrilling trailer! The Bad Batch is making a gloriously large return this fall, if the trailer is anything to go by, as it even elicited an audible gasp with the return of Jedi Padawan Gungi the Wookiee, while the updated armor is a fun change and the lush animation is hard to look away from. We’ll explore some other details and the questions which arise around Gungi’s return below, but I have to start by covering how unfortunately, while the rest of the clones look to be animated darker like their Māori ancestor, Temuera Morrison aka Jango Fett, the Bad Batch themselves have not been fixed regardless of fan outcry and their initial acknowledgment of the problem (and while the rest of the clones are looking more appropriate, now it means the darker-skinned characters are the ‘villains’), so I don’t believe they ever intended to truly address this issue and it’s a damn shame. Tales of the Jedi Panel: First Details, Ahsoka, Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn And More Confirmed (SWCA 2022)

Tales of the Jedi Ahsoka Pavti

The newest animation project is Tales of the Jedi, which will consist of 6 tone-poem like episodes focused on two very different characters: Ahsoka Tano and Dooku! Like most panels at Celebration Anaheim 2022, it wasn’t streamed to the general audience and the trailer wasn’t released either, while attendees also got to watch one of the Ahsoka episodes! After seeing a cellphone recording of the trailer and reading through a few live-tweets of the panel, it certainly looks to be an exciting and unique idea, which I hope can be expanded on to include more episodes, more eras, and more characters! Tales of the Jedi will premiere Fall 2022 (so maybe after Andor, just before The Bad Batch season 2?), but head below for some details and images! Continue reading “Tales of the Jedi Panel: First Details, Ahsoka, Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn And More Confirmed (SWCA 2022)”

Mando+ Panel: More Season 3 Details, Ahsoka Footage, Sabine Wren Casting Confirmed, and More! (SWCA 2022)

Mandalorian Season Three Banner

As was the case for the weekend, Mando+, a panel about The Mandalorian Season 3 and ended up including Ahsoka details and first footage, wasn’t screened to the public. In fact, there was a longer version of The Mandalorian S3 teaser from the opening day panel that invitees got to see, alongside the Ahsoka footage, but unfortunately we couldn’t even see the cast and crew together talking about their experiences. So thanks to some live tweets and reporting from those who were there, and some grainy Ahsoka footage I was able to see before it was taken down, let’s explore some of the reveals and details below. The Mandalorian returns February ’23 and Ahsoka sometime later that year. Continue reading “Mando+ Panel: More Season 3 Details, Ahsoka Footage, Sabine Wren Casting Confirmed, and More! (SWCA 2022)”

Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)

Skeleton Crew Announcement.jfif 1

Since 2015’s Celebration Anaheim, there wasn’t quite been a weekend opening panel like the one with The Force Awakens’ trailer, and well, the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel for Anaheim 2022 wanted to say “hold my spotchka!” but it didn’t quite get there, due to focusing on non-Star Wars projects and by denying this panel to everyone at the convention minus those in the room, it could never quite permeate the weekend like SWCA ’15’s did even if it had a similar show-stopper. Let’s take a moment to address how disappointing, massively so, that they gate-kept this panel from those at home by choosing not to stream it (and the rest of the weekend’s opening panels), with only The Mandalorian’s S3 footage not being shown online anyways, screwing over international fans, fans who can’t come out due to health reasons, fans that can’t come due to COVID and wars, or even just monetary reasons…it’s an extremely inept choice in 2022, especially due to one short teaser, and I wish I could bet on Lucasfilm doing better but I don’t have much faith (like, let us at home pay to watch, even!). That out of the way, head below for the Andor trailer, Jude Law headlining 2023’s Skeleton Crew, and the non-Star Wars news, I guess! Continue reading “Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)”

Vanity Fair Lifts Veil on Lucasfilm’s TV Future

Vader Reva and Obi in Vanity Fair Shoot

With a little over a week before Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Lucasfilm partnered with Vanity Fair on an article pulling back the first layers on what’s to come from its live-action slate of TV and movies. While the latest photoshoot and article don’t uncover anything largely new, besides the announcement of a new show already rumored, plenty of intriguing details about shows like Andor and The Acolyte, as well as what films are on tap, offer a refreshing and welcomed glimpse at what’s to come for the future of Star Wars. Here’s hoping the animation side of things gets just as much love next or sooner! Head below for all the new details and more from the photoshoot!
