Ever since the tease of more Doctor Aphra at NYCC, I’ve been waiting patiently (see: not at all), and so have many other fans of the character, to learn when and where we’ll see our favorite disaster again after December’s Empire Ascendant. The peaceful (see: agonizing) wait is mostly over: Doctor Aphra relaunches in April 2020! While we don’t have any real details on what everyone’s favorite morally dubious rogue archeologist will be up to, or if Tolvan and Vulaada will still be with her, the creative team announced (via BleedingCool) for the relaunch is extremely exciting: Alyssa Wong, an Asian person, will be writing, while Marika Cresta joins for interior art, and covers (which already look phenomenal) will be done by Valentina Ramener; an all-non-male trifecta for Aphra is one the greatest developments in this character’s handling so at this point I don’t care what they do with Aphra, I’m ready for whatever! Considering we’re to learn Aphra’s (plus Tolvan’s and Vulaada’s) fate in December, and the solicitations for April 2020 comics wouldn’t come until January, I wouldn’t be surprised if they withhold further details until after Empire Ascendant, but I could definitely (see: hopefully) be wrong. We’ll bring you more updates on everything Doctor Aphra as we get them! Update 3/31/2020: With the growing Covid-19 pandemic, the comics’ industry has been figuring out how to deal with the situation. As of now, the first issue of the Aphra relaunch won’t come out on April 1 as scheduled, though Marvel is still working on future plans. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more! UPDATE 5/4/20: The issue will release to stores (that are open) May 27, but it came out early on digital for Star Wars Day and here’s our review!
