While the New Republic grapples with the effects of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Han Solo goes on a more personal journey of grief…but still of heroism. Join the Legendary Adventures today as we zoom in on Han Solo in the first novel in the Agents of Chaos duology, Hero’s Trial!
It has been six months since the Yuuzhan Vong made their first massive inroads into the known galaxy. A great warrior and hero of the galaxy has fallen. The mighty Wookiee, Chewbacca, was a hero of the Clone War, the Dark Times, and the Galactic Civil War. After being captured by Trandoshans, Chewbacca valiantly defended Kashyyyk against the invasion of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Unfortunately, the defense only went so far. With the collapse of the Galactic Republic, Chewbacca and his family were put into slavery. As Chewbacca fought his Imperial oppressors, he was aided by a human Imperial turncoat named Han Solo. The two would explore the galaxy together, working for Jabba the Hutt, making enemies, and eventually joining the Rebellion. In the Rebellion, Chewbacca would play instrumental roles in the destruction of both Death Stars and the destruction of future Imperial holdouts. When Chewbacca aided Han and his son, Anakin Solo, to evacuate the citizens of Sernpidal, Chewbacca gave himself for the people of the planet. He stayed on the planet as long as possible to help as many as he could, and Anakin Solo was forced to leave him behind.
Now, the galaxy reels from both the invasion and the loss of one of its greatest heroes. Despite having been in the galaxy for a while, through spies and advance warriors, the galaxy had not known the Yuuzhan Vong’s terror until their massive attack on ExGal 4 and their alteration of the orbit of Sernpidal. The New Republic, now finally accepting the gravity (pun obviously intended) of the threat of the Vong, is actively working to rehome refugees displaced by Vong attacks. After a funeral for Chewbacca on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, Leia Organa Solo joins the effort to rehome as many refugees who have been displaced by the Vong as she can.
Han Solo, unfortunately, cannot bear the grief. He ostracizes himself from his family, leaving them behind and succumbing to his vices of alcohol. While he is away from his family, he is reunited with a friend Roa, who tells him that another of their friends has been joined with a group called the Peace Brigade. On the search for their friend, Han ends up on Ord Mantell, where he is pulled into a Vong attack. The Vong use this attack to gather slaves, but Han is able to free a Ryn refugee. Han and the Ryn, Droma, save more refugees and meet Leia. Han refuses to join Leia, re-joining the search for Reck Desh.
Unfortunately for Han, but fortunately for the galaxy, Han’s search for Reck entangles him in something even bigger than he realizes. The Vong have hatched a new plan specifically targeting Jedi, using the abilities of their priest caste to create a toxic gas. A Vong named Elan, a priestess, offers herself as a sacrifice to kill Jedi. She and Vergere, a former Jedi, travel to the known galaxy to be captured by the New Republic. They hope that in their interrogation, they will be able to meet with head Jedi and kill them with the gas. Thankfully, Han and Ryn figure out their plot, foiling their attempt to find Luke. (Incidentally, Vergere reveals that her tears have restorative properties, which helps cure Mara Jade Skywalker of the mysterious illness that has been ailing her.)
As Han Solo is far from home, the Yuuzhan Vong and New Republic both work to make new alliances….and both parties are forced to make concessions they wouldn’t otherwise. As the duology concludes, join us as the Hutts and Centerpoint Station are moved to the forefront of the conflict!
