Legendary Adventures: New Jedi Order – Dark Tide Duology

The Yuuzhan Vong invasion has caused cracks to show across the galaxy…can the Jedi Order and New Republic respond to the invasion or will the splintering be their undoing? Join the Legendary Adventures as we read the Dark Tide duology!

Two months have passed since the Yuuzhan Vong attack on Sernpidal. The cost of the attack was high, as many civilians and Rebel hero Chewbacca the Wookiee were lost in the crisis that destroyed most of Sernpidal’s surface. New Republic hero Han Solo and Jedi Knight Anakin Solo were able to ferry away quite a few of the refugees and also landed a killing blow on the Yuuzhan Vong biological device that pulled the moon from its orbit. Unfortunately, the New Republic has grown complacent, believing that the Yuuzhan Vong threat was overblown, leading to no further action being taken on their part. The Jedi Order has also taken a bit of a backseat, as Luke Skywalker still struggles to decide whether to revive the Jedi Council or continue to let the Jedi operate how they want to.

Both views have their detractors. Leia Organa-Solo puts the pressure on Bothan leader Borsk Fey’lya to respond with more force to the Vong, but he refuses. Leia takes it upon her own shoulders to warn people who might be in the path of the Vong, traveling first to Agamar, a recent addition to the New Republic. Some pilots are also itching for action, as Gavin Darklighter makes sure Rogue Squadron is always ready to meet any challenges that arrive.  As Leia travels the galaxy, she gains permission to let refugees start to live on Agamar. The first population to come over is the population of Dubrillion. Unfortunately, as she and New Republic officials oversee the transfer, they are attacked and routed to Dantooine, the former base of the Rebel Alliance. Mara Jade Skywalker and her nephew Anakin are already on Dantooine, hoping to find some sort of reprieve for Mara’s virus. The Vong eventually take the day on Dantooine, forcing a New Republic retreat. Thankfully, Anakin Solo is able to defeat a few Vong warriors and save his aunt Mara.

The loss at Dantooine forces more division within the New Republic. Leia and Gavin Darklighter bring proof that the Vong are still a threat to Fey’lya, but the Bothan simply refuses to help. The military leaders of the New Republic rescind their support for Fey’lya based on the growing invasion and Leia turns to a different government. On Bastion, the last capital of the Imperial Remnant, Leia petitions the former Empire for help to defeat the Vong. They even send a delegate to the Yuuzhan Vong, Elegos A’kla. Elegos is a different type of senator, hoping to make peace with the Vong, despite their extreme tendencies toward violence.

The Jedi Order, without clear leadership, also seems to be in danger of crumbling and falling apart. Grand Master Luke Skywalker does not wish to become a puppet of the Republic again, so he doesn’t offer Jedi support to fight the Vong on Republic terms. Instead, he opts to use Jedi as scouts, using their abilities to gather intelligence with the hope of saving more lives. This comes with huge critiques, both from family and from the larger Jedi Order. Jacen Solo believes that the Jedi’s response to the Vong is too little, and he believes that they have lost sight of the greater Force. He doesn’t believe that the Vong are immune to Force sensations – instead, he believes that the Jedi are blinded to the Force. Corran Horn and Garner Rhysode, former students of Luke’s Academy, believe the Jedi were called into action when Vong incursions into the galaxy are revealed to happen long before the current invasion. Corran gains a rivalry with Yuuzhan Vong commander Shedao Shai, which comes to a head on Ithor.

Ithor, a planet in the Ottegan system, home of the Ithorians, becomes the target of a Yuuzhan Vong attack when the Vong and Jedi learn that the Vong’s armor is “allergic” to Ithorian pollen. The pollen of the bafforr trees might be the Jedi’s key to defeating the Vong, so both travel there to secure the pollen. Corran Horn challenges Shedao Shai to direct combat, hoping that the Vong leader will accept the chance to kill his rival and leave Ithor alone. The winner of the duel can do what they wish with the planet, which should have been good news when Corran defeats Shai. Unfortunately, the Vong are not honor-bound to accept defeat even in a scenario like this one and they bomb Ithor to a husk. The New Republic and Jedi Order lose the battle for Ithor, losing huge gains in their reputation and in their ability to fight back against the Vong. Ithor becomes a turning point in the war, one in which the Vong use to start to mount more vicious and sustained attacks across the galaxy.

Meanwhile, the Solo family still mourns the death of their dear friend Chewbacca, and a grief-stricken Han chases his grief across the galaxy….
