As the New Republic reigns, the Jedi Order grows, and more and more systems are looking to throw their lot into the galactic stage. One such planet, Adumar, invites the warriors of the New Republic to a conference – and the NR sends Rogue Squadron. Find out what could possibly go wrong in this week’s Legendary Adventure: X-Wing: Starfighters of Adumar!
The last thirty-some years of galactic history is one muddled by violence and civil war. When Supreme Chancellor Palpatine took control of the Republic, transforming it into the “first” Galactic Empire, miniature rebellions popped up all over the galaxy. Jedi, smugglers, and planets stood against the tyranny of the Empire, leading to a galactic-scaled Civil War between an alliance of rebellious systems and the Empire itself. But this conflict isn’t unique: smaller rebellions and civil wars happen across the galaxy. The pilots of the New Republic, in fact, find themselves as major players in one.
Adumar, according to legend, was colonized in the early days of the Old Republic. As time went on, the planet maintained its own isolationist status, staying away from the larger affairs of the galaxy. But now, almost ten years after the fall of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic, Adumar is ready to throw it’s hat in with the larger galaxy, sending a message to the New Republic. If convinced by New Republic delegates, Adumar would be more than willing to join the new government. There is a catch, though: they can’t send a regular Senatorial delegate. In fact, the Adumarians would be extremely put off by that sort of overture. Adumar’s culture was built on warriors and they hold starfighter pilots in the highest regard. In light of that, the New Republic is forced to send in X-wing pilots led by Wedge Antilles.
Wedge, even though untrained in the art of politics, knows something is off with their arrangement. First, he learns that the culture of Adumar is really kinda based on killing, not just strength. Wedge is invited into more and more acts of violence, forcing him to learn how to toe the line between offending himself and offending them, and costing the New Republic another ally. Second, he learns even this culture isn’t monolothic, as Adumar’s government is fractured and not represented by a single body. The New Republic wouldn’t be able to accept Adumar as an ally with the current political system it employs, but the Empire could! Which leads to the third weird element, the fact the Empire was also invited to send warrior-delegates.
Finally, Wedge figures out what is going on: the Adumarian leader Pekaelic ke Teldan is trying to force the New Republic and Imperial representatives to help him wage a conquest of the planet. In his mind, with the help of both of the governments, he can take control of the planet under his own banner, creating a legacy for himself. Wedge and the New Republic pilots obviously break away from this plan, forcing them to escape the planet with their lives, as they come under fire from Teldan’s forces. The pilots escape and find that there’s an alliance of Adumarian continents standing against Teldan, and he becomes the figurehead of the movement.
Wedge leads these rebels against Teldan, taking control of their X-wings and destroying his TIE fighters. The Imperial Remnant tries to bring a bigger force against the pilots, but it turns out that most of Adumar is willing to team up with the New Republic to ally the planet with the political body. The Imperial Remnant is repelled, bringing a weak political body into even bigger disarray.
In other parts of the galaxy, other ancient forces threaten our heroes, bringing the Jedi Order’s future into scary places…
