Star Wars Comics July 2024 Solicitations

The 2024 July Star Wars comic solicitations are here and, well, one wouldn’t be wrong for being even more interested in the advanced solicits for August that Dark Horse included! But July 2024 isn’t a slouch when it comes to what it’ll have to offer, as the deadly Inquisitorious take center stage in the launch of their new miniseries, Inquisitors, the final Darth Maul: Black, White & Red looks to give the series a memorable finale, Luke Skywalker will be hanging out with one of his mother’s doppelgangers (?!), Ty Yorrick while have to face her past, and so much more! As for the August reveals, The High Republic fans will want to take extra note of what’s to come! So head below and check out the July 2024 Star Wars comic solicitations!

MARVEL

Inquisitors #1 (on sale 7/3)

Rodney Barnes (Writer), Ramon Rosanas (Artist)
Cover by Nick Bradshaw | Variant Cover by Alex Maleev | The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Variant Cover by Chris Sprouse | Variant Cover by Walter Simonson

THE JEDI MUST DIE!

  • Weapons of the EMPEROR, sent out into the galaxy to track down and kill any Jedi who survived ORDER 66, the ruthless INQUISITORS are among the most skilled and deadly threats to those who served the light side of the Force.
  • Buried in the annals of Jedi lore is the story of TENSU RUN, the Jedi who faced the Inquisitors and DARTH VADER!
  • What become of him, and why did the EMPIRE so greatly fear his existence?

Announced this week, Inquisitors is the next miniseries filling the gap as both Mace Windu and Jango Fett wrap up their runs in the months prior, and I’m very excited for this one! The Inquisitors have always been an interesting group and have gotten more and more time on screen or in other stories, thought I hope this will dig a little deeper into their organization than previous tales have. They’ll also be making an appearance in May’s Tales of the Empire, so enjoy the villain focus while we have it! As for what makes Tensu Run so dangerous, the announcement mentioned he has plans to rebuild the Jedi Order, but I’m looking forward to learning what those are and to see how close he gets before the Inquisitors do their job!

The High Republic #9 – Phase III (on sale 7/3)

Cavan Scott (Writer), Laura Braga (Artist)
Cover by Phil Noto

  • ASSAULT ON FORTRESS BOOLAN!
  • A secret space station is on the point of collapse as THE NAMELESS close in!
  • A foe turned ally reaches a crossroads while loyal companions risk everything to save their friends.
  • Meanwhile, the Nihil’s Chief Scientist finally makes his move…but will BARON BOOLAN’s shocking gambit pay off?

Marchion Ro who? The High Republic – Phase III comic, and many other stories, have found Baron Boolan to be a particularly large problem with all his schemes and projects, so I wonder if he’ll make it through this series to scare another day or not! Especially as I want to learn what this shocking gambit will be all about!! As for the foe turned ally, Lourna Dee, please make the right choice for once!! It certainly feels like this is leading to the Tempest Breaker audiobook with her, Keeve, and Avar Kriss! And also, another big win by Phil Noto with this gorgeous cover of Sskeer and Keeve!!

Star Wars #48 (on sale 7/17)

Charles Soule (Writer), Jethro Morales (Artist)
Cover by Stephen Segovia | Variant Cover by Ron Lim | Variant Cover by Lee Garbett | The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Variant Cover by Chris Sprouse | Action Figure Variant Cover by John Tyler Christopher

LAST CHANCE FOR SOLO!

  • LEIA ORGANA has put the galaxy’s freedom before all else, including her lost love, HAN SOLO.
  • With the growing threat of the second DEATH STAR looming over THE REBEL ALLIANCE, should she try to save him…while she still can?

Over on Threads, Soule revealed this and the 49 issue would focus on Leia, though given we know the rescue of Han Solo is yet to come, I’m wondering where he’s going with this story. Will they make the plans or work on one? Or will she decide it’s worth waiting on? Who will she convince to allow them to take such a mission? And how will Lando play a role, as his trial will be over by this issue? Can’t wait to see!

Darth Vader #48 (on sale 7/24)

Greg Pak (Writer), Raffaele Ienco (Aritst)
Cover by Leinil Francis Yu | The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Variant Cover by Chris Sprouse | Variant Cover by Jeremy Wilson

LUKE…JOINS THE DARK SIDE?!

  • It is said there can be only two SITH, the EMPEROR AND DARTH VADER. But could it someday be PALPATINE and LUKE SKYWALKER? Or Vader and his son?
  • THE HANDMAIDEN SABÉ finally tests Luke – with WARBA’S life in the balance!
  • And THE SCHISM IMPERIAL reveals its hidden hand!

It seems sort of wild Luke will have interacted with Sabé by the time of Return of the Jedi and I want to know what she’s hoping to do with this test? And is she trying to prove or ensure? How is he here and in the other series at the same time? And despite the attack on Exegol, the Schism Imperial still has reveals? Regardless, WARBA IS BACK! If you didn’t read Greg Pak and Phil Noto’s short run to close out the 2015 Star Wars series, then you need to right now, for her alone, but you’ll get to enjoy giant rock monsters and Chewie/Threepio heroics along the way too!

Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #4 (on sale 7/31)

Greg Pak (Writer), Luca Pizzari (Artist)
Cover by E.M. Gist | Variant Covers by David Marquez, Walter Simonson

WHERE IS THE DARKEST SIDE OF THE FORCE?

An assassin in the shadows.A forgotten temple.A quest for silence. Why does PALPATINE send DARTH MAUL to an ancient world? And who pays the price…for patience?

Alright, while I’m disappointed this series only has one marginalized creative, it sounds like Pak is ready to COOK with this final entry. Is the forgotten temple the one on Malachor?! They’ve gone there together already know, as we’ve seen in flashbacks. Can’t be the one Qi’ra goes to in Crimson Climb…and what does patience has to do with it?! Well, we’ll just have to have patience to find out!

Ahsoka #1 (on sale 7/10)

Rodney Barnes (Writer), Steven Cummings (Artist)
Cover by David Nakayama | Variant/Virgin Variant by AKA | Variant Cover by Annie Wu | Variant Cover by Jan Duursema | The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Variant Cover by Chris Sprouse | Action Figure Variant Cover by John Tyler Christopher | Foil Variant by Ken Lashley | TV Variant Also Available

After the fall of THE EMPIRE, Jedi Master AHSOKA TANO stalks the galaxy for GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN!

A valuable prisoner escapes New Republic custody; a search for answers reunites two old friends. The villainous MORGAN ELSBETH returns along with two new mysterious Force-users, BAYLAN SKOLL and his apprentice, SHIN HATI.

{This was advance solicited for June’s} I wrote a lot about my feelings on adaptations in my 2023 Star Wars Comics Year-in-Review, but sufficed to say, I always wonder why these creatives couldn’t be used to work on something new. Cummings is a great artist so I’m sure this will at least look good, but if it doesn’t add anything that wasn’t in the show, then well…it’ll have the same issues that story had. Here’s my review of two-episode premiere of Ahsoka.

DARK HORSE

The High Republic Adventures #8 – Phase III (on sale 7/17)

Daniel José Older (Writer), Harvey Tolibao (Artist)
Cover by Harvey & Kevin Tolibao | Variant Cover by Cherriielle (pictured)

Everything is about to change! As Lula, Zeen, and their friends approach Eriadu, they are attacked by Nihil fighters. Will the hope of a Republic resistance be shot down? Meanwhile, on the other side of the galaxy, events are unfolding that will surprise the Jedi and the Nihil and alter the course of their galactic battle!

Tune in for the most shocking chapter of the High Republic saga yet!

Well now, that sounds like quite the promise!! This is out one month after Temptation of the Force and before the next set of novels, so I’ll be interested to see how much this shocking chapter ties into events elsewhere. Regardless, it sounds intense with the space battle over Eriadu, so there’s plenty to be anxious over with this issue!

The High Republic Adventures: Saber for Hire #4 (on sale 7/24)

Cavan Scott (Writer), Rachael Stott (Artist/Cover Art)

The epic miniseries comes to a shocking conclusion! The identity of the sinister Child of the Storm revealed. A past confronted and a sacrifice made as Ty Yorrick and her apprentice face their biggest challenge yet. Ty’s life will never be the same!

• Series finale!

This miniseries just premiered the week these solicitations dropped, so to think things will get this crazy after the mostly normal for Ty events of issue #1 is quite interesting. As for this sinister Child of the Storm…I have a very big guess it’s Kilas Teradine, Ty’s friend whom we last saw she had to skewer with her lightsaber as an ancient artifact messed with his brain, and while I get that was some time before Baron Boolan was out there making his little Children, we never quite saw what happened between her “killing” Kilas and her becoming a monster hunter, so plenty left to tell of Ty’s story…

The High Republic Adventures #9 – Phase III (on sale 8/14) {Advanced Solicited}

Daniel José Older (Writer), Toni Bruno (Artist)
Cover by Harvey & Kevin Tolibao | Variant Cover by Isobell Rees (pictured)

Zeen, Lula, and their team are looking for allies to join the battle against the dastardly Nihil. Their search leads them to an audience with the Founding Families of Eriadu. But Marchion Ro’s accomplices in the capital city won’t make things easy!

{Advanced Solicited} It feels weird to be reading about issue #9 when we’re about to get issue #5 on April 24, though I will say, this doesn’t give away any of the potential emotional responses these events and issues will contain in the meantime, at least! How much will the fallout effect the shocking events of the previous issue, as read about above? I like that Eriadu, which has only been a meeting spot at our current releases in the series, will be so vital in the moments ahead for the series!

The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear #1 (on sale 8/21) {Advanced Solicited}

George Mann (Writer), Vincenzo Federici (Artist)
Cover by Eduardo Mello

Jedi Knight Reath Silas and Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo are charged with delving into the Jedi Archives to learn more about the mysterious Echo Stones and their Force-amplifying powers. In their search, they uncover the dark legend of the ancient Sith Lord, Darth Ravi, and his quest to solve an ancient puzzle that could grant him power beyond imagining . . . or destroy him utterly.

Written by bestselling author George Mann, the writer behind Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures–The Nameless Terror and Star Wars: The High Republic–The Battle of Jedha.

{Advanced Solicited} I imagine they probably had a proper announcement for it, and I can dream of it being a High Republic Show because that would be amazing, but The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear #1 needs ALL of your attention regardless. This is almost like a direct sequel to one of Phase II’s most intriguing and unique stories, The High Republic Adventures – Quest of the Jedi, which took place even further back than the start of Phase II and introduced us to the Echo Stones and mentions of Darth Ravi. Barnabus Vim and his apprentice Vix Fonnick would go on to take the fractured stones and hide them, but they are largely believed to be the ones in the control rods for the Nameless. So there’s a lot of history here, lots of big answers could come from this, maybe even more than Mann’s novel Tears of the Nameless, out September 24, which also features Reath Silas, Amadeo Azzazzo, while they are joined by Azlin Rell, who also appeared in Quest of the Jedi! Lots of connections! And this might be a miniseries, so I’m curious about any overlap with Mann’s novel and how many issues this will be!

The High Republic Adventures – Crash and Burn #1 (on sale 8/28) {Advanced Solicited}

Cavan Scott (Writer), Nick Brokenshire (Artist/Cover Art)

After rescuing Nihil villain Krix Kamerat from a Republic prison, vigilante Crash Ongwa and her crew team up with the former Nihil to hunt down Marchion Ro. But taking out the infamous warlord is easier said than done, especially when the insufferable Krix is involved. Can Crash and her newfound partner overcome their differences, or will infighting be their downfall?

{Advanced Solicited} Revealed at the end of The High Republic Adventures – Crash Landing #1, Crash and Burn #1 picks up after its events, which sees Crash Ongwa deciding teaming up with Krix Kamerat is a good idea?! As the title and this solicit hint, everyone has a right to question Crash’s choice because it sounds like it’s going to be a far more complicated operation with Krix around. Either way, I can’t wait to revisit Crash and her friends, a delightfully interesting bunch, and see what’s next for the galaxy’s most hated Krix.
