Ahead of the SDCC publishing panel on July 25, the official site decided a few reveals were in order, starting with our first glimpse of what’s to follow this current era of comics: The Battle of Jakku maxiseries! Judging from the cover and the description, it looks like the comic will incorporate the defunct mobile game Star Wars: Uprising, as well as the Aftermath Trilogy, to solidify the lead up to the final battle of the Galactic Civil War. We also got covers for some upcoming The High Republic releases early, so between the maxiseries and the covers already being revealed, I expect we’ll be in for quite the treat at this panel! Canon Comic Review: Return of the Jedi – The Rebellion #1
– Spoiler Review –
The penultimate entry in Marvel’s Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary series of one-shots takes us from a glimpse inside the Empire last issue and over to the rabble rousers trying to take it down in the next: Return of the Jedi – The Rebellion #1! Written by Alex Segura, the issue follows the Rebellion’s attempt to foil a plot to assassinate…Mon Mothma! While it gets a little too convoluted for its own good, it’s a well-paced and enjoyable little ride. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Return of the Jedi – The Rebellion #1”

Poe Dameron: Free Fall is a young adult novel written by Alex Segura, exploring the character’s newly revealed spice running backstory. With an enjoyable, action-packed pace and great characterizations, especially for a younger Poe and Zorii Bliss, Free Fall hits a few heights, but it can’t escape feeling like it’s crossing items off a list for this new backstory. YA Novel Poe Dameron: Free Fall Explores Character’s Smuggling Past in August
For a character who was originally supposed to die in the opening minutes of The Force Awakens, Poe Dameron has had quite the extended life. Beyond the sequel trilogy, he’s had an excellent on-going comic, starred in an adult novel, and already gotten a little back story in novels/comics before. After his surprise additional backstory introduced in The Rise of Skywalker, we’re getting a YA novel by writer Alex Segura that’ll dive into Poe’s time as a spice smuggler this August, titled Poe Dameron: Free Fall (via Polygon). It’s surprising characters with less backstory and content weren’t chosen for a novel, but here we are. Check out the blurb and some of my thoughts below.
