– Spoiler Review –

Darth Vader #19 heralds in the end of “The Shu-Torun War” with surprising fates for Morit and Aiolin, a wonderful and intriguing arc for Queen Trios, a brilliant contrast between Vader and Obi-Wan, some great callbacks to DV Annual #1, and what is now most certainly the best Triple-Zero scene to date. While a shorter arc, “The Shu-Torun War” feels just as fleshed out and well-told as a longer 6-issue arc and Darth Vader #19 is one of the biggest reasons why. Darth Vader #17 brings some interesting life to “The Shu-Torun War,” by showing Vader up to his usual blunt violence and ratcheting up the intrigue with various players moving behind the scenes for their own gains (and Vader’s death). Also, the issue has a surprise regarding Cylo’s relationship with Vader, which probably shouldn’t be that much of a surprise in the first place. It all comes down to this: Commander Karbin has shown his hand, intending to take out the rebels and Vader in one fell swoop. Han’s life is on the line. Luke is captured (again) by the Imperials. Aphra is on Vader’s naughty-list. And Leia is facing the biggest decision of her life. Darth Vader #15, part 6 of the Vader Down crossover event, wraps it all up in a grand, but somewhat unsurprising ending, while revealing Vader Down had just as big a role for Leia as it did Vader.
