TIE Fighter #1 begins Jody Houser’s TIE-in (a pun I’m dying on a hill for) to the Alphabet Squadron trilogy of novels, the first of which releases June 4, and while the first issue does a lot of legwork, it introduces us to an intriguing cast of characters and ends on an exciting cliffhanger. Age of Republic is the first “Age” of the Age of Star Wars maxiseries, and thus there were plenty of unknowns about how it’d work and a lot of expectations and hopes on its shoulders. If Jody Houser’s work, along with the art teams’, is any indication for how the rest of the maxiseries will go, we’re in for an excellent series of deep, well-thought out character portraits. By June 2019, we’ll be halfway through the year, marching ever closer to Episode IX and the first live-action TV series, but you won’t find anything related to those in this solicitation just yet. But with Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 coming mid-April, just before July’s solicitations will go live, we’ll be getting plenty of news regarding upcoming comic projects, especially since you’ll see below June finds Kieron Gillen exiting the Star Wars series and the Vader – Dark Visions miniseries comes to a spooky end. Jody Houser’s continuously excellent Age of Republic comes to a close on its strongest issue yet, Age of Republic – General Grievous #1, which is not only a visual feast with spooky, atmospheric art that brings the terror of the metal general to life, it also connects back to the beginning of the miniseries to offer one resilient thought: hope. Announced early last year, the Alphabet Squadron novel written by Alexander Freed is now a trilogy, while it’ll also have a comic miniseries TIE-in (what a pun) called TIE Fighter from Marvel, penned by Jody Houser.
