Rumor Reactions: 2023’s Star Wars Movie Revolving Door, The High Republic Edition

The High Republic Film Theories

I don’t normally cover rumors in their own post, though I often link to the rumor or leak in a related post if I feel it might be interesting to those reading said post, and even today I hesitated a bit talking about the latest: the revolving door of which Star Wars movie we’ll get in 2023. Officially, it’s still Rogue Squadron, directed by Patty Jenkins, but with trades like The Hollywood Reporter covering its delay (to help the director fill other obligations/get the film right), it seems less and less likely, but Lucasfilm seems set on filling the December 2023 with any film. Recent rumors have suggested first an Old Republic era set film, so think the still on-going MMO and Knights of the Old Republic games (with a remake on the way), and now also a The High Republic era one, coinciding with the publishing initiative that’s garnered widespread praise by fans and is about to finish the first Phase of it’s multi-year story. I can’t speak to the accuracy of any of these rumors, though they come from sources frequently trustworthy, but as someone who’s become a big of a fan of The High Republic era, the idea of a movie tying into its expansive story offers tons to consider. So let’s have some fun, assume this latest in the rumor-mill is true, and dig into what a live-action High Republic set film could cover! Future of Star Wars Unveiled: Rogue Squadron Movie, TV Series Lando, Andor, The Acolyte and More Announced!

The Future of Star Wars Disney Investors Day 2020 Image

Star Wars is dead…long live Star Wars! And honestly, I have no clue how or where to begin this ginormous, overwhelming drop of news about the future of Star Wars, as there are nearly 10 new series announced for Disney+ and a new movie from Patty Jenkins called Rogue Squadron all set to hit our collective eyeballs in the next few years! I am absolutely thrilled at all this content coming, though a little anxious about it being too much, but let’s not worry about that and unpack all the new series and movie announced today at the Disney Investors Call. Canon Novel Review: The Rise of Skywalker

The Rise of Skywalker Expanded Edition Novel Review

Spoiler Review –

The Rise of Skywalker novelization, written by Rae Carson with expanded content, certainly helps add more depth and context to a film that just needed a few extra minutes to let events sink in, making it a great read for those left wanting a little more from the Skywalker Saga’s finale. Comic Adaptation of The Rise of Skywalker Hitting Shelves in June

FINAL UPDATE: This was banished to the netherworld of the Force, never to return….maybe. At this point, I highly out doubt it. ORIGINAL STORY: Comic adaptations have always been a bit hit or miss for me, so of course I’m a little wary of The Rise of Skywalker’s upcoming adaptation no matter how much I enjoyed the film because it’s definitely a bit of a mess. And the fact the adaptation will only be 5 issues, a glaringly small amount considering Solo: A Star Wars Story got 7 whole issues, and it includes new content not in the film which adds a whole other layer of concern when jamming all that story into a scant number of issues. There’s an excellent creative team at the helm though, with Jody Houser writing and Will Sliney on art (The Rise of Kylo Ren). The Rise of Skywalker #1 hits shelves in June, three months after the novelization (which itself will add deleted scenes, as already seen in its first excerpt) and the film’s home/digital release. See the full Phil Noto cover below the cut! UPDATE 1: With the current state of comics, including a far reduced schedule as comics begin shipping in late May again, I wouldn’t expect to see this in June but we’ll update once we know more! Chant “Rise” Alongside All the Jedi When You Bring Home The Rise of Skywalker in March!

The Rise of Skywalker, a mess of a film I still managed to love, launches digitally March 16 and will hit home release March 31, while Disney+ will add it in the summer. Special features include: a feature-length documentary about the making of the film, though it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll only include J.J. Abrams’ time with the film; several behind the scenes featurettes into creature and sequence making; and a digital exclusive about John Williams’ final Star Wars score. The most glaring omission is deleted scenes, though I guess that’s just a ringing endorsement to go pick up TROS’ novelization on March 17 (its first excerpt featured one of many deleted scenes, adding context and slowing down the pace of the film’s opening) and the “Art of” book, out March 31 alongside the film (where leaked pages from the book revealed the deleted scene in the excerpt). Movie Review: Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

The Rise of Skywalker Review BFULL SPOILER REVIEW

Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker attempts to both wrap up the sequel trilogy and offer a conclusion to the entirety of the Skywalker Saga, and while it accomplishes the goal of providing endings, through an adventure set on lightspeed the whole way through, stuffed to the gills with answers and revelations, and terrific performances from its actors once again, it’s too stuffed and too messy with both how it gets to those endings and what exactly is in those answers to all our burning questions, while plot jumps to the forefront over the characters. Overall, I still loved this giant mess of a film, but it is a mess nonetheless but there’s nothing that can be done about it. Turn back now, as this review will not shy away from spoilers! The Rise of Skywalker News, Clips, TV Spots, and More Round Up

We’re less than a month from The Rise of Skywalker now, but it’s hard for the internet to talk about anything other than Baby Yoda right now, though Lucasfilm is trying its best to refocus us all onto the end of the Skywalker Saga: from a few TV spots (like the one above), character posters, a high-velocity clip, and more, it’s getting hard not to think about the end. The Rise of Skywalker’s Theatrical Trailer, Poster Arrive!

The final battle for everything, for the dark and the light, explodes across The Rise of Skywalker‘s epic theatrical trailer. The scale and scope of the final Skywalker Saga film already feels befitting of an ending for a 42 year old franchise. There’s some excellent, stunning shots in this trailer, especially with the iceberg asteroid planet thing, the BIG ship battle that makes the Battle of Endor look like a child’s play time, the sweeping shots of Rey’s training, Jannah leading the space horse brigade into battle, Emperor Palpatine hosted in something mechanical with Rey standing strong before him, Threepio’s goodbye, and the seemingly never ending lightsaber duel between Kylo Ren and Rey; I wouldn’t be mad if their duel rages throughout most of the film, to be honest. Luke’s words here, and having him and Leia deliver the last line together, is the chilling, tear-inducing icing on the cake. Head below for the theatrical poster, some musings from the interwebs, and screenshots to only make the wait for December 20 feel even further away.
