It’s always good to temper expectations for reveals, no matter how consistent insiders are regarding upcoming content plus taking into consideration Lucasfilm’s past marketing efforts, so it shouldn’t have been too surprising the Star Wars content for Disney+ Day 2021 turned out to only be a sizzle reel for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show (which can still only be seen on Disney+ at the moment). It doesn’t mean this can’t be disappointing, especially since this reel was the one shown to investors a year ago and it leaked online Thursday afternoon, but it’s still got some exciting concept art images to drool theorize over until we get an official trailer/release date: Darth Vader looking ominous sitting on a lonely throne in his Mustafar castle; Vader and Obi-Wan locking sabers on what looks like Mustafar again; an underwater Imperial facility; and an image that looks suspiciously like it could contain the Second Sister from Jedi: Fallen Order. Otherwise, Fortnite looks to have its latest Star Wars crossover with Boba Fett/Fennec Shand, there was some new merchandise revealed (like the Lula doll from The Bad Batch), and a little documentary about Boba Fett (that doesn’t even mention the EU books of Legend-lore, interestingly enough, but has some neat BTS footage), but for now head below to check out the concept art images and tune back into the Manor for more…once they decide to release it, of course. First The Book of Boba Fett Trailer Arrives!
Boba Fett, the unifier of the underworld, the ruler of respect, the new owner of Jabba’s Palace; I can’t be the only one thinking Boba’s going to have as many titles as Queen Daenerys from Game of Thrones by the end of The Book of Boba Fett, right?! All kidding aside, November 1 saw the release of The Book of Boba Fett‘s first trailer, a short look at the underworld Boba (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) will confront in hopes of uniting it under his rule, though why he feels he’s the right man for the job, after 5 years in the desert on a soul-searching sojourn, remains to be seen. It’s a promising trailer, with plenty of alien characters as I hoped, and tons of glowering from Shand, so count me intrigued for when the show starts December 29, 2021. Head below for the key art and some stills from the trailer, but otherwise make sure to return to the Manor for the reviews once the show begins! The Book of Boba Fett Premieres December 29!
Alongside a new, but not very notable poster, The Book of Boba Fett’s release date has finally been confirmed: December 29! I’d expect more details and a trailer at the upcoming Disney+ Day on November 12, otherwise this date announcement includes a brief snippet confirming much what we already know regarding the show’s plot: Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) are staking, “… their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.” Head below for the full poster, which is basically the end-credits scene of Boba sitting on the throne with Shand next to him, otherwise check back to the Manor when more details arise, which like I said will probably be November 12! LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales Trailer Brings the Spooky Laughs
With October closing in, our first look at the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales special arrived with the trailer above. It looks about as you’d expect from another LEGO special, humorous, delightful, and full of winks and nods to all parts of the universe and pop-culture at large. I will say, I felt like Christian Slater for Ren’s voice, the leader of the Knight of Ren before Ben Solo, would be absolutely perfect and the trailer confirms it, so I’m already sold. Head below for details on the three scary tales Darth Vader’s old servant Vaneé will tell visitors to the new Vader’s Castle Hotel and check out the short when it hits Disney+ on October 1! Star Wars Visions Cast, New Trailer Revealed
Lucasfilm handed 7 legendary anime studios Star Wars and let them run wild and I don’t understand how we’re so lucky to have Star Wars Visions this September. The trailer above pretty much left me speechless, as while I’ve been excited for Visions’ potential, never in my wildest hyperspace-induced dreams did I imagine something so stunning and absolutely eye-catching as what we have in store when this hits Disney+ September 22. Check out the trailer again in original Japanese below and see the star-studded voice cast for both the English Dub and original cast! Continue reading “Star Wars Visions Cast, New Trailer Revealed”
LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales Spooks Disney+ in October
After the refreshing Life Day fun in last years’ The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, LEGO returns instead with a sinister plan in mind: scare all the Disney+ subscribers with some Terrifying Tales! LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales, the premise of which sounds an awful lot like the Vader’s Castle series of yearly frights from IDW, will premiere on Disney+ October 1, with stars like Tony Hale, Christian Slater, Dana Synder, and more bringing the spooky special to life. Star Wars Visions to Dazzle in September on Disney+
Of all the shows announced in December 2020, Star Wars Visions piqued many’s, including mine, interest due to its compelling and limitless idea: give anime studios a chance to create whatever Star Wars anime projects they wanted as part of an anthology series. Star Wars has borrowed a lot from East Asian cinema, with George Lucas originally offering the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi to Toshirō Mifune even, so it’s about time they get their chance to show what they can bring to the Saga. Starting September 22 on Disney+, Star Wars Visions will feature nine shorts from seven legendary anime studios, all with their own original score, and we have some new details and a slick trailer show the wild and exciting styles to come thanks to a panel at Anime Expo Lite. Head below for more details! UPDATE 2: A brand new, spectacular trailer and the full cast has been revealed! FINAL UPDATE: We’re reviewing these shorts one by one, so here’s our first one, a review of “The Duel,” while you can find the rest of our Visions reviews here! Plus, you can read our spoiler-free reviews of “The Duel” tie-in novel, Ronin – A Visions Novel. Continue reading “Star Wars Visions to Dazzle in September on Disney+”
The Bad Batch Trailer Explodes Our Hype for May 4th Premiere
When Clone Force 99 is around, explosive, action-packed shenanigans are guaranteed and The Bad Batch’s latest trailer delivers in spades, though offers some intriguing hints of what else this show will be about with returning, familiar faces and a mystery-filled new one; all I really needed to know is if Wrecker would rein destructive mayhem on his enemies. Head below the poster and for more thoughts on the trailer, including who this “Omega” is! UPDATE 5/4/21: The series premiere and our review of it are in! And now so is our review of it’s second episode! Continue reading “The Bad Batch Trailer Explodes Our Hype for May 4th Premiere”
Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Cast Announced, Production Begins April
Knowing Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will be back for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series, directed by Deborah Chow, is enough to make myself and many other fans excited it, but today the official site announced the remaining cast and holy Force is it stacked and wonderfully diverse: Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. With the series, set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, beginning production in April, and this seemingly being a shift to Lucasfilm trying out a little more marketing than normal for these shows, maybe we’ll get some BTS fun for May the Fourth? Regardless, let’s dive into the casting announcements below! Continue reading “Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Cast Announced, Production Begins April”
Original Novel Star Wars Visions: Ronin Announced, Out October
When Lucasfilm revealed the future of Star Wars, with tons of content flowing through Disney+, one of the more intriguing shows was Star Wars Visions, an anthology collection which will, “…bring 10 fantastic visions from several of the leading Japanese anime studios.” It’s not even out yet and it has inspired an original novel, Star Wars Visions: Ronin, by Emma Mieko Candon, set to release October 12, with the book’s announcement confirming the show will be out 2021. I’m eager to learn more about this book, especially if Candon pitched them a book with “a transcendent sense of hope,” as this could be an intriguing new concept for a novel. No extra details released for Ronin or Visions, but check back at the Manor as we’ll have them when they do! Continue reading “Original Novel Star Wars Visions: Ronin Announced, Out October”
