Doctor Aphra Audiobook Partial Cast Revealed, Includes Some Surprises! (UPDATED)

Officially unofficially, some of the Doctor Aphra: An Audiobook Original cast was revealed on Penguin Random House’s page (thanks to Tom Chansky for pointing it out!), setting Emily Woo Zeller as the titular disaster, and rogue archaeologist herself, Chelli Aphra! The list also included voices for Sana Starros, Triple-Zero, Darth Vader, and…Maz Kanata?!! But that’s just one of the few other surprises, so head below to find out who else! UPDATE 6/29: The official site has revealed the cast, alongside a new interview with the writer Sarah Kuhn, where she reveals some great new details on what to expect, while you can check out my primer/speculation article now! UPDATE 7/25: Now my review is out!

I’ve been working on a speculation article about who we could all see in the audiobook and how their inclusion could expand on Aphra’s introduction from the first volume of the Darth Vader comic, but some of the names on the list, including Kanata, were never even going to be mentioned! I’m wrapping up that article very soon, but in the meantime, here’s the list:

Emily Woo Zeller as Doctor Aphra
Jonathan Davis as Boba Fett
Sean Patrick Hopkins as Luke Skywalker
Sean Kenin as Triple-Zero
Nicole Lewis as Sana Starros
Carol Monda as Maz Kanata
Euan Morton as The Emperor
Catherine Taber as Leia Organa
Marc Thompson as Darth Vader

Maz Kanata is surprising to some extent, but considering she’s 1000 or so years old, the chances someone like Aphra might’ve walked into her castle/bar isn’t that surprising. The bigger ones are Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa; Aphra has had run-ins with both characters, but they don’t come into Aphra’s life until the Vader Down crossover event, which was basically the Vader series’ third story arc, which goes well-beyond Aphra’s introduction. So could the audiobook be going that far into the series or are they part of a framing story? Aphra and the Emperor don’t meet until the end of the Vader series’ first volume, but he is in the series taunting Vader about his failure at the Death Star, so either his appearance means we’ll see some of that or we are going through the entire first volume. The more answers we get, the more speculation we can have! My primer article for the audiobook will dive a little bit more into all these characters, so look for that in the coming days! UPDATE: The article is out now!

I’ve not heard Emily Woo Zeller narrate before, but if this was audiobook writer Sarah Kuhn’s reaction to hearing Zeller voice Aphra, then I think we’re all going to enjoy her in the role! The audiobook is out July 21!
