While it feels just as staged as the demo us Star Wars Celebration Anaheim attendees saw behind-closed-doors, there’s no denying how beautiful Star Wars Battlefront looks, as seen in the above gameplay trailer. But that wasn’t all for Star Wars gaming news, as The Old Republic MMO had a new expansion announced, some more details on the Disney Infinity 3.0 playsets (like where you can get a Boba Fett figure first), and unfortunately another dang mobile card collecting game. The only disappointment was the lack of any news (not even a title!) for Visceral Games’ project. Head below for more video and details. A Good Blaster At Your Side: The Future of Star Wars Video Games (Part 3)
Jedi usually mean big things: battles aboard Death Stars, planets destroyed, seats of government changed, galaxy-wide conflicts, etc. But if the non-Jedi mini-story focus of the first Anthology film Rogue One is anything to go by, there’s a push away from big spectacle to smaller focused stories for everything Star Wars without an Episode number and I feel like the same will be true for the beginning of EA’s video game content: expect games with a single player campaign (i.e. not Battlefront) to, at least at first, give the game’s protagonist a good blaster at their side instead of the mystical lightsaber. Del Rey Panel, TFA Novelization, Sampler Thoughts (SWCA 2015)
Del Rey, the wonderful folks who have been making Star Wars adult fiction novels for quite a number of years now, held a panel talking about the present and future of their works, including tidbits on the “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens” initiative and the surprise TFA novelization author. They also handed out a Sampler to attendees with excerpts from a few current and upcoming works and my thoughts on that content and the panel are below. Battlefront Trailer, Gameplay Demo, Battle of Jakku DLC, and Novel Details (SWCA 2015)
By now it’s pretty likely you’ve already seen the Battlefront trailer, though not as likely as The Force Awakens or Star Wars Rebels Season 2 trailers, but definitely likely. Once you’re done soaking in the lush forest moon of Endor graphics from the trailer, I have details on the behind closed doors gameplay demo on the show floor, the new information released about the game, the Battle of Jakku DLC pack, and details on the tie-in novel Star Wars: Battlefront: Twilight Company. Star Wars Battlefront Confirmed for Celebration Anaheim
EA’s developer DICE have announced—through EA’s dedicated Star Wars site—Star Wars Battlefront will be making some type of appearance at Celebration Anaheim in April. With a Holiday 2015 release date still expected, it’s a given we’ll get a glimpse of the first gameplay footage from the game. The details are still forthcoming for what its debut entails, but I’m expecting at least a gameplay heavy trailer, a possible panel, and desperately hoping for a hands-on demo, or at the very least a behind closed doors event for the press. Of course, it’d be even better with a surprise appearance from the other EA developers, Visceral and BioWare, to tease what they’ve been working on for SW too. One can certainly hope. New Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer Shown at E3
Shortly after EA got the Star Wars license, we were treated to an extremely brief CG trailer teaser of Star Wars: Battlefront at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2013. Since then, the developers at DICE have been eerily silent about the game but it was a guarantee we’d be seeing something this year. Today, at the EA presser, the above video was unveiled containing in-engine footage from the upcoming Battlefront entry. In it, we at least know why DICE was quiet: they were busy checking out the hallowed Lucasfilm Archives and freezing their rear ends on Hoth so much they couldn’t bring themselves to talk. But other than that, we still don’t know much regarding the actual game. Continue reading “New Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer Shown at E3”
