December is full of endings: the end of the 2019 calendar year, the end of the Skywalker Saga with The Rise of Skywalker, and the end of Phase 1 of Marvel’s Star Wars comics??!!!!??? That’s right, with the announcement of Empire Ascendant one-shot earlier today, the beginning of the end for Marvel’s first Phase, as it were, has arrived. And that includes Doctor Aphra, much to this fan’s giant dismay, though it’s not all endings, as December sees the start of The Rise of Kylo Ren miniseries! Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations
You can always trust Halloween to be full of sweets, and Star Wars comics won’t be disappointing in October as we’re getting plenty of delectable sweets that way too. IDW and Marvel both bring Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker content to the table (with Marvel’s beginning and ending in the same month!), IDW brings back the spooky with Return to Vader’s Castle, but is the scariest thing of all what might be happening with the Doctor Aphra series? Check it out below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations”
Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Age of Rebellion
Age of Rebellion is the middle “Age” of the Age of Star Wars maxiseries, but having to follow in the footsteps of Houser and team’s Republic seemed like a difficult job. Greg Pak, a few other writers, and the various artists along for the ride delved into the latest “Age” with aplomb, and while most of it was simply good, it’s highs were quite the zenith. Canon Comic Review: Doctor Aphra #33
– Spoiler Review –
From a reunion between exes a long time coming (wonderfully planned for Pride Month!) to an insane plan to assassinate the Emperor, Doctor Aphra #33 might be full of set up but it’s still one of the best series around for its snappy, funny, and downright enjoyable presentation and infectious characters. Canon Comic Review: Doctor Aphra #32
– Spoiler Review –
Doctor Aphra #32 begins a really fantastic jumping on point for those of you who haven’t enjoyed the blundering disaster that is Aphra, as the “Unspeakable Rebel Superweapon” arc both is easy on newcomers and a true damn delight for long-time fans, with an ending that had me about falling out of my chair in sheer delight. Star Wars Comics July 2019 Solicitations
While July could’ve celebrated Independence Day by finally breaking away from having Darth Vader in comics, it chose against it, but at least Tom Taylor will be free to go to the Age of Resistance as we get closer and closer to The Rise of Skywalker. Also in July, the new Star Wars comic creative team of Greg Pak and Phil Noto takes over from Kieron Gillen and, as we always should, we get a double dose of Doctor Aphra! Check out July’s Star Wars comics below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics July 2019 Solicitations”
Canon Comic Review: Age of Rebellion – Special #1
– Spoiler Review –
Age of Rebellion – Special #1 spins some side tales about characters like IG-88, Yoda, and Biggs Darklighter and Jek Porkins, and while one falters a bit, the others provide some thrills, chills, and a very important, teachable moment. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Age of Rebellion – Special #1”
Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Age of Republic
Age of Republic is the first “Age” of the Age of Star Wars maxiseries, and thus there were plenty of unknowns about how it’d work and a lot of expectations and hopes on its shoulders. If Jody Houser’s work, along with the art teams’, is any indication for how the rest of the maxiseries will go, we’re in for an excellent series of deep, well-thought out character portraits.
