Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Vader – Dark Visions

Vader Dark Visions Miniseries Review

Vader – Dark Visions technically should’ve never existed, because in a perfect world I would be writing about Shadow of Vader instead, but we live in an imperfect world. Despite that, I figured I’d give this replacement series a shot, as it was a different, varied, and lauded creative team stepping in, so what could go wrong with a similar concept? It became apparent far too early that everything could and Dark Visions was never able to step out from under Vader’s shadow, both literally and figuratively, leaving us with the most disappointing series from Marvel to date. In a perfect world, I probably wouldn’t have to write that statement. Continue reading “Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Vader – Dark Visions”

Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #5

Vader Dark Visions #5

Vader – Dark Visions #5 ends the series much like it started it, as it offers up a story rather similar to one it has already told that lacks the nuance the series promised, while its visuals remain the sole bright spot of tuning in. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #5”

Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #4

Vader Dark Visions #4

Vader – Dark Visions is back with issue #4 and after the abysmal issue #3, which I felt was a more damning moment to have this series cancelled than anything Chuck Wendig said to get fired/his series cancelled by cowardly Editor Mark Paniccia, this series can’t escape its own shadow, let alone the shadow of what brought it to life. Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #3

Vader Dark Visions #3

– Spoiler Review –

Vader – Dark Visions #3 deals with a woman who has an obsessive crush on Darth Vader, and as full of problematic potential as that sounds, the issue unfortunately makes such concerns valid, making me uncomfortable and reopening the wound of the terrible decision to replace Chuck Wendig’s Shadow of Vader with this. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #3”

Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #2

Vader Dark Visions #2

– Spoiler Review –

Vader – Dark Visions #2 shows, and show it does with some very unique, stylized art, how the fear Vader puts in the officers of the Empire can have its downsides. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #2”

Star Wars Comics June 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics June 2019 Solicitations

By June 2019, we’ll be halfway through the year, marching ever closer to Episode IX and the first live-action TV series, but you won’t find anything related to those in this solicitation just yet. But with Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 coming mid-April, just before July’s solicitations will go live, we’ll be getting plenty of news regarding upcoming comic projects, especially since you’ll see below June finds Kieron Gillen exiting the Star Wars series and the Vader – Dark Visions miniseries comes to a spooky end. But forget for a moment the deluge of info coming in April and enjoy what June will still have to offer, from Hondo Ohnaka sightings and Doctor Aphra potentially finding an all-important ex! Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #1

Vader Dark Visions #1

– Spoiler Review –

In a better world, we actually wouldn’t be reading Vader – Dark Visions, but rather Shadow of Vader by Chuck Wendig. But we don’t live in that world, instead we live in a world where a compromise to Neo-Nazis by Comicsgate friending Editor Mark Paniccia has cancelled Wendig’s series and replaced it with one of similar design, but different stories. Unfortunately, this controversy hangs a shroud over this series longer than its titular character’s imposing frame ( Shadow of Vader lives on, from a certain point of view), but it’s not Dark Visions‘ creative team’s fault, so as much as I’ve really not wanted to cover this series, out of respect for the team who had nothing to do with it, I’ll be giving their replacement series a chance (much like I discussed regarding my continued coverage of Marvel in my year-in-review). Issue #1 of Vader – Dark Visions doesn’t impress however, even when factoring out the controversy, as it comes off as nothing more than a show of Vader’s force.
