One of the best things about the upcoming Disney+ revival of The Clone Wars is finally seeing unproduced content Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo have been teasing over the past few years come to life on the screen: Anakin granting Ahsoka her own battalion; Ahsoka adjusting to life without the Jedi Order and down in the Coruscant underworld; more of Clone Force 99; and of course the Siege of Mandalore. While it’ll only be 12 episodes, the trailer above sure makes it look like it’ll be 12 episodes of pure TCW adrenaline. You can find the trailer at the 52:18 mark in the video above, while below I go over what we learned about some of this content at prior conventions. Light Details on The Mandalorian at Celebration, Premieres November 12 on Disney+ (SWCC 2019)
If you weren’t at the panel, The Mandalorian didn’t offer much for everyone else to get excited for because the first footage, a trailer, BTS reel, and a scene, were for panel-goers only. It seems like a silly idea because of course one can find some grainy versions of it online, so first impressions for the masses not there could be less than flattering, though several write-ups seem to suggest the footage was more than impressive. We did learn Carl Weathers’ character is named Greef Carga, the head of a bounty hunting guild, while Gina Carano plays Cara Dune, an ex-Rebel trooper, but Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian is still called only the Mandalorian… like Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name, but I bet we’ll get a name befor the season is over. The Mandalorian is set to premiere with Disney+ on November 12! Check out some new stills below, the panel, and pray to the Force we commoners get that footage sometime soon. Jedi: Fallen Order First Trailer, Releases November 15 (SWCC 2019)
Our first look at this year’s Jedi: Fallen Order comes in the form of a CGI trailer, which both has raised my anticipation for the first single-player only game in almost a decade (Battlefront II‘s had a GREAT story, but gameplay left a little to be desired) but it has also given me some apprehension for the experience. Fallen Order comes from Respawn Entertainment, home of the Titanfall franchise, which includes Titanfall 1/2 and Apex Legends, of which the single-player mode for Titanfall 2 was far better than it deserved to be, even despite its brevity, so I’m not terribly concerned with the gameplay and pacing of this game. When Fallen Order lead Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) wall runs at one point in the trailer, that’s a popular move from the Titanfall games because the main character had a jump pack that allowed them to pull off awesome stunts, so this’ll be a fun game to play, no matter what. However, the concerns it raised were two fold, which I’ll get into a little more under the cut: 1) It gave off a little too much of a The Force Unleashed vibe, which overpowering Jedi just to give players a power trip just doesn’t feel right anymore when Jedi Master Luke Skywalker does the most badass Jedi thing ever by not fighting. 2) I’ve never watched Shameless (shame on me), but I absolutely loved Cameron Monaghan in Gotham, back when I was still watching the show, and felt he’d be a great Joker, but making the main character a plain white dude is rather disappointing when basically all the Jedi (seen on screen in shows/movies) who survived Order 66 are other dudes. The first concern was tempered by the panel/cliff notes version at the official site, and regardless I’m still anticipating the game, but I’ll be a little cautious about it when it launches November 15, 2019. I go into a little more detail below, as well as dig into the identity of the Second Sister Inquisitor chasing Cal, as well as some screenshots from the trailer.
UPDATE: You can read my review of the game here! Continue reading “Jedi: Fallen Order First Trailer, Releases November 15 (SWCC 2019)”
Vader Immortal Episode One Trailer, New Details Arrive (SWCC 2019)
Announced back in September 2018, Vader Immortal: A VR Series got its own panel at Celebration Chicago 2019, offering up a trailer and some new details about the experience. Vader Immortal is about a smuggler who gets pulled into Vader’s nefarious schemes on Mustafar, finding out they have Force sensitivity in the process. Focusing mostly on the first episode of the series, the panel revealed the series ties into events from the Secrets of the Empire VR experience (the ancient saber?), while some hints about its story reside in the final arc of last year’s Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith, “Fortress Vader,” where structures were seen hidden far beneath Vader’s Castle, which I believe players will visit as the trailer seems to show a visit to ancient ruins. Players will be joined by your expected funny droid companion, ZOE3, and she’s played by Maya Rudolph (!) so you know she’ll be funny, while interactions will be aplenty with Mustafarians, hence the exploration of deep, dark corners of Mustafar; I was dying to see under their helmets in the Vader comic, and now they have been unmasked! The first episode will be focused on lightsaber combat and training you with the basics, with Episode II to include Force powers, but Episode I‘s training dojo will be something you can play endlessly even once the episode is over. The VR series is still set to premiere with Oculus Quest, the untethered, cheaper Oculus, this spring, but no concrete release date was announced. Check out some screenshots below and head over to the official site for more details. Continue reading “Vader Immortal Episode One Trailer, New Details Arrive (SWCC 2019)”
Episode IX Titled The Rise of Skywalker, Teaser Trailer Revealed (SWCC 2019)
Wow. Leaves you speechless, doesn’t it? So much to take in! Rey pulling off a bomb-ass move against what I’m assuming is Kylo in his TIE; Luke saying all the generations of Jedi are in her now; Lando chuckling with glee, in a Solo-esque outfit, at piloting the Falcon again (aka he’s with L3-37 once again!); Kylo Ren cutting down some Resistance soldiers on a creepy red-hued planet; Leia and Rey hugging; Finn and Poe together on adventures with Threepio; and of course that final shot of Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Threepio, and BB-8 looking at the downed Death Star II (originally part of early TFA drafts), with Emperor Palpatine’s cackles echoing loud and clear (Ian McDiarmid did appear to ask them to roll the trailer again)?!?!?!! What?!?!?! Is this Kylo finishing what Anakin/Vader started (thanks to Mark for that thought)?! Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker will be the end of the Skywalker Saga and, from this teaser at least, it looks like it’ll be an unforgettable and surprised filled ending. I can’t say the panel beforehand revealed anything terribly important, but it’s a blast to see the cast all together having a great time, to meet Naomie Ackie’s Jannah (who didn’t say no to being Lando’s daughter, but didn’t confirm), and seeing new droid D-O. All the StormPilot fun with Oscar Isaac and John Boyega for Poe and Finn was pure joy, Joonas is a sweet soul, but the greatest moment was the fans celebrating Kelly Marie Tran, bullied off social media due to people who aren’t actually fans, as she deserved getting to see the love and support all the actual fans have for her (and that BTS shot of Rose and Rey talking is just about everything). Check below for some images from the trailer, as well as the livestream in full. The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t quite complete the title sentence like I had hoped all those years ago, but I am dying to see this come December 20!
