I was joking before going to Celebration Europe 2016 that if the only thing I did there was ILMxLAB’s Virtual Reality Experience, Trials on Tatooine, I’d be perfectly content. On the convention’s final day I got my chance to play and I kid you not, over Thrawn’s introduction in Star Wars Rebels or the new Rogue One footage, Trials on Tatooine will forever be my top moment from SWCE 2016. Not only was it an wholly immersive VR experience, as it felt like my childhood imaginations came to (virtual) life, it also helped sell me on VR technology and its potential. It’s a Wrap: Celebration Europe 2016 News Roundup – Han Solo Casting, Ep. VIII Teases, Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel Author Revealed, Battlefront DLC
While I’ve written up a few articles already for what I managed to see at Celebration Europe 2016 mid-July, but I’m not going to be able to cover all of what I did and didn’t see in as much detail as normal. However, this article will cover the best of the rest in regards to news and reveals you might have missed (and I didn’t make a separate article for), including the very unsurprising reveal of the young Han Solo actor, some teases from Rian Johnson regarding Ep. VIII, author reveals for upcoming Rogue One related novels, new Battlefront DLC bringing space battles and Rogue One content this year, and more! Cosplay Gallery and Celebrity Sightings (SWCE 2016)
I didn’t grab as many cosplay pictures as I would’ve like for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016, but the ones I did are a great reminder of how important and pivotal the art of cosplaying is for a enjoyable convention experience. There’s also one or two celebrity sightings but no, I didn’t happen to catch Alden Ehrenreich (aka the new Han Solo) wandering around with a stormtrooper mask on. Next year, maybe? Also included below, the entire cosplay competition from the show! Continue reading “Cosplay Gallery and Celebrity Sightings (SWCE 2016)”
Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Panel/Press Conference Details: Trailer, Grand Admiral Thrawn (& Novel), New Characters (SWCE 2016)
With each passing year, Star Wars Rebels gets bigger both in terms of content and fans. Season three looks to be no different, especially with the show bringing us into the larger Rebellion, the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn (!!) to canon, the crew changing due to the events on Malachor in the S2 finale, a deeper dive in Sabine’s life, Wedge Antilles joining the Rebellion, and Maul’s continued presence being a thorn in everyone’s side. Once you’re done with your fiftieth viewing of the trailer above head down below for more details learned about S3 from the panel. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Panel and Costume Exhibit (SWCE 2016) (UPDATED)
The Rogue One panel at Celebration Europe 2016 was a rather fun hour (despite some hiccups) thanks to the constantly geeking out host, Gwendoline Christie, the entire cast (surprisingly enough) coming out to discuss their roles, and the above behind-the-scenes video. There were details revealed on new planets, new character info, and even a hilarious spoiler slip from one of the cast. For show attendees, we were treated to a new trailer (yet to release as of this writing) which I’ll detail a bit below, while everyone else got to see the fun BTS reel. Check out all the new Rogue One details, and my gallery from the costume exhibit, below! UPDATE 7/22: I’ve included the full panel video below (but it doesn’t include the new trailer). Star Wars Rebels Season Three Premiere Review: “Steps Into Shadow”
– Spoiler Free and Spoiler Filled Reviews Within –
Star Wars Rebels Season 3 premiere episode, Steps Into Shadow, doesn’t quite match the spectacle of the season two finale, but it’s a good thing it didn’t as it rightfully deals with the fallout of “Twilight of the Apprentice” while pushing us towards the new, bigger galaxy the Ghost crew is finding themselves in. Below we’ll start things off without spoilers, but read beyond that (and all the clearly placed spoiler warnings) if you dare to know the full details. Ahsoka’s Untold Tales Panel Impressions (SWCE 2016)
For any fan of The Clone Wars breakout character Ahsoka Tano, her Untold Tales Panel was an absolutely must see. While panelists Dave Filoni (executive producer of Rebels), Pablo Hildalgo (Story Group), and Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano), didn’t clear up her fate after the Star Wars Rebels Season Two finale, they did a deep dive into some remaining unproduced TCW episodes which included her having a boyfriend (and Asain lead!), a journey into the Sith Temple below the Jedi Temple, and the Ahsoka Loyalist troops, while also revealing her novel’s cover art, vague and metaphorical Topps cards about her fate, and one giant promise about whether we’ll see her or not again. SWCE 2016 News Roundup Pt. 3: Ahsoka Untold Tales and Future Filmmaker Discussion Panels Announced
Fans of Ahsoka Tano and those interested in the films beyond Rogue One have something to really look forward to at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 (July 15-17), as two newly announced panels look to spill the proverbial Jawa beans on those subjects. First off, Ahsoka’s Untold Tales features Dave Filoni, Pablo Hildalgo, and Ashley Eckstein (the voice of Ahsoka Tano herself!), who will discuss the character’s, “…past, from her discovery by the Jedi Order as a young child, to her adventures in unproduced episodes of The Clone Wars, to the chapters of her life newly revealed in the Ahsoka novel and more!” As someone who went to Celebration Anahiem 2015’s Untold Clone Wars panel, where they revealed tons of new content, this is sure to be an absolute must-see for Ahsoka fans. Secondly, the Future Filmmaker Discussion includes Rian Johnson (director for Ep.VIII), Chris Miller and Phil Lord (directors of the untitled Han Solo film), Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, and Pablo Hildalgo as they, “…close out the weekend’s festivities on a high note!” Which, even if it’s just title reveals for both projects, would certainly be a high note for me.
