Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #25 (Vol. 2)

– Spoiler Review –

Since 2015, Charles Soule has been a growing and impressive voice in Star Wars comics, with different series, exciting new characters, big ideas, and so much more for readers to enjoy, later going on to help create The High Republic initiative with his fellow luminous writers. The script for Star Wars #25 (Vol. 2) is his 100 written, so the editors and Lucasfilm allowed him to arrange for something rather special: an issue full of stories and returning artists from his previous works. What follows are 4 special short stories that point towards the impact he’s had on Star Wars so far and seemingly a promise he’ll bring the same quality going forward. Star Wars Comics August 2022 Solicitations

With less than a week before Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, here are the August Star Wars comics solicitations, which include the beginning of Dark Horse’s return to the Saga with their all-ages input! Most of the issues in the solicitations will actually hit in August, as it seems the delays are back under control for now, but a few issues from prior months are scheduled to come out in August 2022 as well, so I’ve made sure to reference them too. Otherwise, feast your harvest-season eyes on T’onga’s final bid to save Cadeliah from Qi’ra’s Crimson Dawn, the next glimpse of Obi-Wan’s past, Chewie behind bars (again, but like can’t he just bend them?), and Darth Vader facing his most feared enemy…sand??!!? Star Wars Comics July 2022 Solicitations

Star-Wars-Comics-July-2022-Solicitations

July is set to be a refreshing month for Star Wars comics, as many of the current series’ reach their 25th issue mark, closing out storylines and beginning new ones…well, if they actually come out in July. Unfortunately, the global issues with shipping, printing, and paper are still affecting comics and many of April, May, and June’s have slipped into different months, with several from June and even May releasing in July now. So these issue below likely won’t be out in July due to the landslide effects (maybe August?), but they are exciting looks at where things will go once the Star Wars comics get there. Check out “July’s” Star Wars comic solicitations below, where we see Sana Starros leading a crew to rescue Aphra (?!?), the chaos Qi’ra unleashes on the galaxy, a deadly mission during the Clone Wars for Obi-Wan, and more! Star Wars Comics June 2022 Solicitations

Star-Wars-Comics-June-2022-Solicitations

Compared to last June‘s Star Wars comics solicitations, 2022 might not have anything as big as the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover, in fact we have a break from Qi’ra’s comic trilogy, but it is packed with issues that should interest fans of all eras. June kicks off The Mandalorian‘s adaptation comic, Qui-Gon Jinn guest appearances in the Obi-Wan comic (and maybe Obi-Wan show!), Chelli Aphra has to battle her memories to escape her latest problems, while Charles Soule digs up tales across his Star Wars comics career for a truly spectacular and epic 25th issue for his current Star Wars run. June will once again have Pride Month variants, though they haven’t been revealed yet and I have some hopes Lucasfilm/Marvel will do a little better this time around (especially in light of everything going on with the company). Head below for all the details on Star Wars comics’ June 2022 solicitations! UPDATED 4/13: There’s been a lot of delays at the moment, so you’ll find a few June comics are actually ones from either April or May…I’ve updated the dates for the original June releases below. War of the Bounty Hunters Hype Week Roundup

War of the Bounty Hunters Roundup Week

The deal with the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover keeps getting larger all the time! Initially it seemed like this would be a simple crossover that led to a miniseries, but it became clear that was just a small part of Marvel’s big plan for this storyline. Over at the official site, they’ve spent most of the week unveiling variant covers from artist Giuseppe Camuncoli (Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith), though they ended with a neat look with artist Steve McNiven behind-the-scenes of the upcoming Alpha issue that launches the whole crossover, and the announcement of 4 extra tie-ins that flesh out the crossovers’ story. Head below for all the new details! Continue reading “War of the Bounty Hunters Hype Week Roundup”

Kieron Gillen Star Wars Comics Retrospective

– Full Spoiler Review –

How does the Rebellion go from the height of its offensive against the Empire to the lowest point of its existence? Kieron Gillen was tasked to follow up Jason Aaron’s run on the flagship Star Wars series to show us exactly that. Fresh from the destruction of the Death Star, the Alliance launches a massive offensive against the Empire, starting with Cymoon I and the Harbinger, all the way up to an assault on SCAR Squadron to rescue a captured C-3PO. A beleaguered Darth Vader tasks Queen Trios of Shu-Torun to come up with a plan to infiltrate the Alliance’s ranks and take them down from the inside…. Legends Comic Review: Star Wars Original Marvel Years #108

Star Wars Original Marvel Years #108

As Marvel celebrates 80 years, they teamed up with Lucasfilm to bring life back to their original Star Wars comics run from the 70/80’s for one more issue, and it’s a love letter to the wackiness and mythos of that run, as well as to fans who enjoyed it all those years ago. For fans like myself who never imbibed, it’s not as glorious of a return, but it’s still a fun diversion, good remembrance, and a measurement of how much/how little has changed. Canon Comic Retrospective: Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith Series

Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith Complete Series Retrospective

– Full Spoiler Review –

How does a Jedi Knight turn into a Dark Lord? Well, if you’re newly christened Darth Vader, it’s not the way that you think. First, you have to get a Sith blade, but you can’t use an existing lightsaber that has been sequestered from fallen Jedi. No, you’re going to have to get your own. Oh, and you’ll have to find a list containing your own potential replacements from the galaxy’s second baddest ass librarian. While baby-sitting the newly formed Inquisitorious, which may also be your potential replacements. You’ll also have to put up with attempted assassination attempts from fellow Imperials. And bounty hunters. And Jedi. And an ancient Sith Lord who stabs you in the back. Continue reading “Canon Comic Retrospective: Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith Series”
