January is usually a time of new beginnings for most people, especially as they start their attempts at New Year’s resolutions (which I believe in you, you can do it!), but for Marvel and mostly Dark Horse Star Wars comics in January 2025, it’s more about endings. On Marvel’s side, their big The Battle of Jakku maxiseries meets its climactic titular battle, Ewok adventures end, and the publisher looks back at their 10 years of comic legacy (which means I’ve been reviewing comics for 10 years now here and I’ll have to unpack that later). For Dark Horse, there’s finales to Echoes of Fear and Tales from the Occlusion Zone, while their main THRA series marches towards the era’s end, but they also bring something new: a Bad Batch miniseries! Dark Horse’s The High Republic Adventures comics expands again, this time with a new miniseries catching fans up with a variety of fan favorite characters and stories, with different writers and artists to go with them! The High Republic Adventures – Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone #1 doesn’t stray too far from the main series, but it’s a helpful new point in that story which also sets up the stories to come in this series. Fans might be hunkering down for the winter, ready to enjoy some warm drinks and visits with family, but Marvel and Dark Horse have a packed and exciting December 2024 set for Star Wars comics! Sometimes, it’s just one of those days: an audiobook original for Audible gets shadow dropped by Disney Lucasfilm Press, while Dark Horse announces both a Bad Batch focused miniseries for January 2025 (via Star Wars News Net), and The High Republic Adventures Annual Phase III. Audible’s Padawan’s Pride follows a young Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the early days of their training (and I’ve already listened to some of it), Clone Force 99 rides again in Hyperspace Stories – The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents, set during the Clone Wars, and the THRA Annual bring 5 stories of light and life during the era’s third Phase.
