Announced back in September 2018, Vader Immortal: A VR Series got its own panel at Celebration Chicago 2019, offering up a trailer and some new details about the experience. Vader Immortal is about a smuggler who gets pulled into Vader’s nefarious schemes on Mustafar, finding out they have Force sensitivity in the process. Focusing mostly on the first episode of the series, the panel revealed the series ties into events from the Secrets of the Empire VR experience (the ancient saber?), while some hints about its story reside in the final arc of last year’s Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith, “Fortress Vader,” where structures were seen hidden far beneath Vader’s Castle, which I believe players will visit as the trailer seems to show a visit to ancient ruins. Players will be joined by your expected funny droid companion, ZOE3, and she’s played by Maya Rudolph (!) so you know she’ll be funny, while interactions will be aplenty with Mustafarians, hence the exploration of deep, dark corners of Mustafar; I was dying to see under their helmets in the Vader comic, and now they have been unmasked! The first episode will be focused on lightsaber combat and training you with the basics, with Episode II to include Force powers, but Episode I‘s training dojo will be something you can play endlessly even once the episode is over. The VR series is still set to premiere with Oculus Quest, the untethered, cheaper Oculus, this spring, but no concrete release date was announced. Check out some screenshots below and head over to the official site for more details. Continue reading “Vader Immortal Episode One Trailer, New Details Arrive (SWCC 2019)”

Jedi: Fallen Order Title of Respawn’s Star Wars Game, Coming Holiday 2019
At the annual gaming convention expo E3, video game publisher EA kicked off the festivities with their EA Play showcase, revealing sparse details and a title for Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming Star Wars game, first teased to have lightsaber wielding characters in 2016. Titled Jedi: Fallen Order, the game takes place shortly after Revenge of the Sith, following a surviving Padawan, and it’ll release Holiday 2019 (there’s already a website). With Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 happening in April 2019, I’d say that would be our best bet to finally get footage and more specific details about the game. D23 Expo 2017: Star Wars Land Details, Name, and Immersive Hotel, plus Battlefront II BTS Featurette
While everyone, including your grandparents, will likely still call it Star Wars Land, at the D23 Expo 2017 its official name has been unveiled as Galaxy’s Edge. Fittingly named considering it takes place on a planet at the edge of Wild Space, which is basically the edge of the known Star Wars galaxy, the first Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disney Land in 2019 (once again making a case for Celebration 2019 to take place in Anaheim). Plenty of new details were released regarding the experience, as well as the news a fully immersive Star Wars hotel experience was on its way as well. Also at D23, Battlefront II got some focus in a video game livestream, where Steve Blank (Lucasfilm Story Group) and Janina Gavankar, who plays the game’s main character Commander Iden Versio, chatted about the game and released an extensive BTS featurette on the game’s story. Check out more about Galaxy’s Edge (yes, there is blue milk!) and the new Battlefront II footage below! Battlefront II Panel Impressions: Singleplayer Focus with Inferno Squad Novel Tie-in and Multiplayer Rebooted (SWCO 2017)
The first details about the upcoming Battlefront II, set to release 11/17/17, were officially unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017. To create this massive sequel, not only will EA DICE be returning, but they’ll have a little help from Motive and Criterion, and by the time the panel was over it was very clear Battlefront II would be a massive upgrade from EA’s first entry in their reboot of the franchise. The biggest thing of course is the singleplayer campaign included with this game, which doesn’t look like an afterthought at all, while the multiplayer is bringing back classes and upgrades at a scale fans have been asking for. While I looked forward to the first Battlefront with tepid anticipation, and I’m withholding my true excitement until we see some gameplay footage, but everything I’ve heard so far makes this sound like a Battlefront game I can’t wait to play. While I’ve written up a few articles already for what I managed to see at Celebration Europe 2016 mid-July, but I’m not going to be able to cover all of what I did and didn’t see in as much detail as normal. Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission Teaser, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Demo Impressions
Sunday’s EA Play Press Conference for E3 2016 didn’t have much to show on the Star Wars gaming front, but Monday night’s Sony PlayStation Conference pulled back a tiny corner of the veil. The above video is the extent of footage released for Criterion’s Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, which takes you to space (a first in the revamped series) for a VR dogfight against TIEs. In a post over at the PlayStation Blog, it’s revealed to be free (granted you have a PS4 and PS VR). Also during the conference, PlayStation fans were treated with the news they had exclusive (for the night) rights to the first demo of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which I tried out and have my impressions below, including screenshots and clips.
