By November 2021, Star Wars comics will be changed forever by the events of the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover, but one look at these solicitations and you’d wonder how it sounds much different than what’s come before…though of course they weren’t going to reveal how everything will change via these solicits! The official site’s post with the early preview suggests, “As the story ends, the…landscape will find a new status quo,” so it sounds like November will deal with the fallout from the crossover’s events. It sounds like an intriguing month anyways, with each series dealing with the fallout of Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn’s return while The High Republic era has some potentially big revelations. May is always a time of celebration for Star Wars fans thanks to all the goodness surrounding the May the Fourth holiday and this year should be extra special considering it’s Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary!! With Star Wars comics, the May solicitations reveal there’s a bounty to enjoy…for Boba Fett fans, at least. Wait, what? That’s right, the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover takes over most of May’s comics, though the excellent The High Republic-related comics will continue on as is, revealing the secrets of Star Wars history. In April 2021, after 6 plus years of success, amazing new characters, and exciting/spellbinding tales, Marvel and IDW will bring their partnership with Lucasfilm to a close and end Star Wars comics for good. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world in many different and unpredictable ways, and the entertainment industry has been in flux ever since. Comics stopped shipping for the most part in early April after Diamond Comics stopped distribution, but they have since begun shipping once again, with new comics hitting open comic shops for the first time on May 20. The upcoming schedule of comics has drastically changed, so the previously promised Star Wars comics have shifted in a big way. Marvel and IDW have begun to reveal their updated schedules (via Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek), so we’ve included the new list for the issues out in June and July 2020 below! Over at the official site, ahead of April 2020 Star Wars comics’ solicitations, Dan Brooks interviewed the scribe of the upcoming relaunch of Doctor Aphra, Alyssa Wong, revealing new details like a heavy Indiana Jones-esque plot and a whole host of new and intriguing characters. And at THR, IDW announced a 5-issue anthology miniseries, Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales, where clones share war stories (UPDATE: Check out our interview with the series’ writer, Michael Moreci). UPDATE: Due to the growing pandemic, comic distributor Diamond Comics has halted shipping starting in April. Marvel won’t be releasing issues digitally and IDW certainly won’t unless it’s on a store shelf, so it’s very much up in the air when these comics will end up seeing the light of day. It’s an unfortunate, but understandable move. Battle Tales has a new tentative release for June, but no word on what Marvel is thinking for Aphra’s relaunch. I’ll update as soon as we learn! January is a time for new beginnings and all those important resolutions we love to make, like watching more Star Wars…but on a treadmill. It’s also a time of uncertainty for what’s ahead, as we don’t quite know what’s next for the Star Wars Saga after The Rise of Skywalker brings the Skywalker part of it to an end (and if the epic trailer from Monday is anything to go by, it’s going be a brave new galaxy), but we at least get our first glimpses of Marvel’s relaunching efforts in 2020 and beyond with today’s solicitations. When it was first announced the younger marketed Star Wars Adventures comics from IDW would have a Forces of Destiny tie-in miniseries, a show itself great for the same audience the comic reached, it felt like a match made in Cloud City. Now that all five issues of the female-centric miniseries have released, all written by female creatives, I can honestly say it belongs among the clouds, despite a few minor missteps that won’t really matter to core readers of the event series.
